In the name of God I Martha A. POWERS of Currituck County and State of North Carolina being weak in body but of a sound mind and memory Blessed be God for the same, I do this day make this my last Will and Testament in the following manner.

   I give and bequeath unto my son David C. POWERS the sum of Twenty five dollars.

   I give unto my daughter Lizzie , the sum of twenty five dollars, the balance of my property I lend unto my daughter Kesiah POWERS her life and give the same unto my son Franklin P. POWERS consisting as follows, all of my lands, hogs, cattle, household and kitchen furniture, money and notes if any on hand.

   Having closed my gifts I now appoint my daughter Kesiah POWERS my lawful executor to this my last will and testament making all other wills void made by me to the present date.  In witness whereon I set my hand and seal the 2 day of March 1889

Martha A. POWERS
    A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Martha A. POWERS dec’d is exhibited in open court for probate by Kezziah, executrix therein named; and the due execution thereof by the said Martha A. POWERS dec’d is duly proven by the oath and examination of A.T. GARRETT and J.B. GREGORY, subscribing witnesses thereto and it is further shown to the satisfaction of the court by said witnesses that the said Martha A. POWERS was at the time of making said will of sound mind and memory of full age to execute a will and under no restraint to their knowledge information or belief.
    It is thereupon considered adjudged and decreed; that said proof is sufficient and according to law and that said paper is and contains the last Will and Testament  of Martha A. POWERS dec’d.  And on motion it is ordered that said will be admitted to probate and recorded in the Book of Wills of Currituck County and as such filed as provided by law in the Office of the Clerk of the Superior Court of said County. It is further ordered that said Kizziah POWERS be allowed to qualify as executor as provided by law and enter upon the discharge of the duties imposed by said trust.

Dated this the 2nd day of September 1889
