Benjamin Russell

Currituck Co. Will Book 3, pp. 42-43

In the name of God Amen.

I Benjamin RUSSELL of the County of Currituck and State of North Carolina being weak in body but of a sound disposing mind and memory, calling to mind, that it is appointed for all men to die, do make and ordain this to be my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows, first recommend my soul to almighty God that gave it to me.

Item. I lend unto my Wife the house and plantation whereon I live during her natural life or widowhood, and one negro woman named Talliker, and one boy, Lam, one girl Grace, during her natural life or widowhood, on his (sic) keeping her two children Susannah and Daniel RUSSELL clair of any expence to them.

Item. I give to my Wife one negro man Jubeter, two feather beds and furniture, and all the iron ware and chairs and chests and table, to her and her heirs. I also lend unto my Wife after selling enough to pay my just debts, all of my moveable property during her widowhood.

Item. I give unto my Son Daniel RUSSELL the plantation whereon I now live, and one boy by the name of George, to him and his heirs.

Item. I give unto my Daughter Susannah after the death or marriage of my Wife, one negro woman by the name of Talliker, one boy by the name of Lam, one girl by the name of Grace, and all the rest of my estate within doors and without, to my Daughter Susannah, except the crop and hogs to go to my Wife and her heirs.

I do nominate my Brother Daniel LINDSEY to be my whole and sole executor to this my Last Will and Testament and do impower him to act as he may think best for my children. In witness whereof I do hereunto set my hand and seal this the 17th of November 1814.
