Currituck County Wills
In the name of God Amen, I James RYAN Esq. of the County of Currituck and State of North Carolina, being sick of body but of sound disposing mind and memory, blessed be to Almighty God for it, I do make and ordain this instruement of writing to be and contain my Last Will and Testament, First that is to say I recommend my soul to Almighty God that gave it me and my body to be desently buried in a place where it should please my executors hereafter named and as to what estate it hath been pleased God to bestow me, I give and dispose in manner and form as followeth--
First my will and desire is that my loving Wife Isabell RYAN should have the use of the old plantation whereon I now live, and all the land belonging to it during her life, and after my afsd Wifes death I give the afsd land and plantation unto her Son Andrew DUKE, to him and his heirs forever. Also my will and desire is that the dividing line between me and Robert POYNER should stand as we have made it.
Item: I give and bequeath unto the afsd Andrew DUKE a tract or percel of land containing seventy five acres more or less bounded as followeth begining at William MONCREEFs corner and running a south and be west course to the back line of my pattent and the said land being on the south east end of my pattent and back of the said Andrew DUKEs own land to him and his heirs forever.
I also give one cow and calf to Francess BRUMSEY Daughter of Mary GIPSON to her and her heirs forever.
I also give all the remainder of my estate after all my just debts and costs of settling of said estate is well and truly paid unto my loving Wife Isabell RYAN, both real and personal within doors and without to her and her heirs forever.
I also constitute and appoint my loving Wife Isabell RYAN and Willis ETHERIDGE my holy and sole executors of this my Last Will and Testament. To see all my estate setled according to this my Last Will and the law should require, as witness my hand and seal this twelfth day July Anno. Dom. 1784.
