The Last will and Testament of Anthony SIMMONS Decd. Was Exhibited at February Term 1837 and proved by the oaths  of John BRICE Jurat and Littleton D. MORSE Jurat and ordered recorded

I Anthony SIMMONS

December 20 day 1836
North Carolina
Currituck County

   I Anthony SIMMONS being sick and weak in body but in my proper mind and sound in memory and bearing in mind the certainty of Death do make and ordain this my Last will and Testament in manner and form as follows Viz.

   1 Item I Give and bequeath to my son Anthony SIMMONS my plantation on which I reside Bounded on the south side by Mr. Moses CASONs farm on the north by Mr. Malachi JONES and all my lands against Jessee BROWNs bounded on the south by Mr. Reubin MORSE and on the east side by Mr. James WHITEHURST to him and his heirs for Ever.

   2 Item  I Give and bequeath to my four children Anthony Nancy Delila and Judith equal rights and privileges in the swamp land which I bought of Henry BONNY to them and their Heirs for Ever.

   3 Item  I Give and bequeath to my son Anthony SIMMONS the Marsh called the Slide marsh which I bought of Lovy KING to him and his heirs for Ever.

   4 Item  I give and bequeath unto my son Anthony SIMMONS the marsh which I bought of Malachi JONES called Buzzards Island marsh to him and his heirs for Ever.

   5 Item  I give and bequeath unto my wife Polly SIMMONS five negroes viz. Hannah Rose Willis Henry and Jim during her natural life and at her death to be divided between my Two Daughters Delila and Judith SIMMONS they with their Increase to them and their heirs forever.

   6 Item  I give and bequeath unto my daughter Nancy SIMMONS Two negroes Bethia and David to her and her heirs for ever.

   7 Item  I Give and bequeath to my daughter Delila SIMMONS one black boy named Arthur to her and her heirs for ever.

   8 Item  I Give and bequeath to my daughter Judith SIMMONS one black girl named Mary to her and her heirs forever.

   9 Item  I Give and bequeath to my daughter Delila SIMMONS one black girl named Nanny to her and her heirs forever.

   10 Item  I lend the use of sundries property to my wife Polly SIMMONS during her natural life one Black Horse gig and Harnis with the choice of three cows and calvs Two Ews and lambs first choice of Sow and pigs and my Fattening hogs and all the dead meats one Horse cart and Harniss one plough and harniss Two weeding hoes one grubbing hoe Two axes fifteen head of dunghill Fowls one pot one Duch oven one Tea kettle three Feather beds and furniture one clock one Buffet one chest one Table one spinning Wheel Four yellow stool chairs three Black flag chairs.

   10 Item  I Give and bequeath to George GRONTO five dollars.

   12 Item  I Give and bequeath to John SIMMONS five Hundred dollars to him in cash to him and his heirs forever.

   13 Item  I leave it obligatory on my Son Anthony SIMMONS to pay over to John SIMMONS my son three Hundred dollars at the expiration of Two years after my dec’d.

   14 Item  I leave Ned to be sold by my Executor Either at publick or private sale.   Iit is my desire that he is not sold out of the counties of currituck Princess anne and norfolk counties and the money To be applied to paying my Just debts and Contracts.

   15 Item  I Leave all my personal Estate which is not given away to be sold at publick sale and the moneys Divided between my wife and Daughters Equally.

   16 Item  all the Property which I have given to my wife Polly SIMMONS at her Death to be Equally Divided Between my Two Daughters Delila and Judith.

   17 Item  after all my Just Debts and accounts are settled if any remain I give to my three Daughters Nancy, Delila and Judith ten dollars Each.

   18 Item  I leave my son Anthony SIMMONS my Executor of this my Last will and testament
