Currituck County Wills
In the name of God Amen, May ye 27 Anno Dominia 1789, I James SIMPSON of Currituck County State of North Carolina being sick and week of body but of good and sound memory Thanks be to God for the same and knowing the uncertainty of this transitory life and that it is appointed once for to die am minded to settle any estate in manner and form following, that is to say, I do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament, and first and principally I give my soul unto God who gave it hoping that through the merits of Jesus Christ my blessed Redeemer I shall receive forgiveness and remision of all my sins and my body to be buried in the earth in such decent and christian manner as my executors hearafter named shall think meet as for what worldly goods God in his mercey hath lent unto me I give and bequeath in followeth.
I give and bequeath unto my Son James SIMPSON my plantation and tract of land wheron I now live to him and his heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my Wife Pemmy SIMPSON all the remainder part of my estate both without and within doors during her widowhood and after that
I give to my four Daughters Sarah SIMPSON, Elisabeth SIMPSON, Christian SIMPSON and Pemmy SIMPSON to be divided amongst them after my just debts are paid likewise its my desire my Wife Pemmy SIMPSON should have my plantation the use of it during her widowhood to raise my children on, and then to return to my Son James SIMPSON.
And I do appoint Malachi DUDLEY and my Wife Pemmy SIMPSON to be my executor and executrix to this my Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal the day and year first above writen.
