I Silas TAYLOR of the County of Currituck and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence, do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say:
First - That my executrix (hereinafter named) shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to my relations and friends, and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts, howsoever and whomsoever owing, out of the moneys that may first come into her hands as part and parcel of my estate.
Item - I give and devise to my beloved wife Ellinor all my lands, building and chattled property of every kind that now belongs to my estate, so as to include my dwelling house and all the furniture thereunto belonging and all out houses and other improvements together with every species of property that I may now possess; to have and to hold to her, the said Ellinor, for and during the term of her natural life in satisfaction for and in lieu of her dower and thirds.
Item - My will and desire is after the death of my said wife Ellinor that all my property loaned to her in a former item I give and devise to my only son Benjamin to have and to hold to him his heirs in fee simple forever.
And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Ellinor my lawful executrix to all intents and purposes to execute this my last will and testament according to the true intent and meaning of the same and every part and clause thereof.
In witness whereof I the said Silas TAYLOR do hereunto set my hand and seal, this the 20th January A.D. 1867

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Silas TAYLOR to be his last will and testament in presence of us who at his request and in his presence do subscribe our names as witnesses thereto.

A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Silas TAYLOR, deceased, is exhibited for probate in the Court of the Judge of Probate for said County by Ellinor TAYLOR the executrix therein named and the due execution thereof by the said Silas TAYLOR is proved by the examination and oath of Henry B. ANSELL and John SIMMONS the subscribing witnesses thereto it is therefore ordered by the court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of the said Silas TAYLOR and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed. And thereupon the said Ellinor TAYLOR executrix aforesaid duly qualified as such by taking the oath required by law.Recorded April 23, 1870
