Johnson Waterfield
Oct. 15, 1886 - Aug. 5, 1895
In the name of God Amen or be it remembered that I Johnson WATERFIELD of Knotts Island County of Currituck and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of my earthly Existence do make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following:
First - That my executor hereinafter named shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all funeral expenses and my just debts.
Item: I give and bequeath to my wife Ludicey WATERFIELD my farm on which I now reside containing two acres of land more or less so as to include my dwelling house all out houses and all the improvements to have and to hold to her and her heirs in fee simple forever.
Item: I give and bequeath to my wife Ludicey WATERFIELD all of my cattle and hogs, all of my household property of any description whatever.
Item: I give and bequeath to Ludicey WATERFIELD my wife the residue of my estate of any kind whatever to her use and behoof forever.
And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint Ludicey WATERFIELD my wife sole executrix to this my last will, hereby declaring all other wills void at any time made. In testimony I hereunto set my hand and seal the 15th day of October A.D. 1886.

A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Johnson WATERFIELD, deceased, is exhibited before me, the undersigned, Clerk of the Superior Court for said County, by Ludicy WATERFIELD, the executrix therein mentioned; and the due execution thereof by the said Johnson WATERFIELD, is proven by the oath and examination of Elias WILLIAMS and John W. BEASLEY the subscribing witnesses thereto who being duly sworn, doth depose and say, and each for himself deposeth and saith that he is a subscribing witness to the paper-writing now shown him, purporting to be the last will and testament of Johnson WATERFIELD and that the said Johnson WATERFIELD in the presence of this deponent subscribed his name at the end of said paper-writing which is now shown as aforesaid and bears date of the 15th day of October 1886.
And the deponent further saith, that the said Johnson WATERFIELD the testator aforesaid, did, at the time of subscribing his name as aforesaid, declare the said paper-writing so subscribed by him and exhibited by his last will and testament, and this deponent did thereupon subscribe his name at the end of said will as an attesting witness thereto, and at the request and in the presence of the said testator. And this deponent further saith, that at the said time of making said will of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will and under no restraint to their knowledge information or belief of this deponent. And further these deponents say not.

I, Ludicy WATERFIELD do solemnly swear or (affirm) that I believe this writing to be and contain the last Will and Testament of Johnson WATERFIELD deceased; and that I will well and truly execute the same by first paying her debts and then her legacies, as far as the said estate shall extend, or the law will charge me; and that I will well and faithfully execute the office of an executor agreeable to the trust and confidence reposed in me, and according to law, so help me God.
