The Last Will and Testament of John WILLIAMS dec'd Exhibited at November Term 1835 Proven by the oaths of Spence HALL & Elizabeth Ann GOOMAN [sic] witnesses thereto and ordered Recorded.

State of N. Carolina Currituck County

In the name of God amen. I John WILLIAMS of the State of North Carolina & Currituck County being weak in body but sound disposing mind & memory knowing that I must shortly die and go the way of all flesh do make and ordain this to be my last will & Testament in maner and form following.

   Item 1 I Lend the use of my plantation whereon I now live unto my beloved wife Abiah to include all the lands I Bought of Thomas TEMPLEMAN & Joseph BALLENTINE during her natural life. I also lend her the use of negro man Jack and negro woman Amey & Sarah with as much of the stock crop and provision as will support her comfortable and all the household furnature or the use thereof during her life.

   Item 2nd I Give & bequeath unto my Son James WILLIAMS the Tract of land I Bought of Joseph BALLENTINE laying on the north part of my plantation as per deed from said BALLENTINE will fully show also Thirty acres of the tract of land I bought of Thomas TEMPLEMAN to commence at Currituck Sound and run to the back line adjoining the land I have already given him to him & his heirs forever.

   Item 3# I give unto my Daughter Betsey HATFIELD after the death of my Wife Abiah the balance of the plantation I bought of Thomas TEMPLEMAN it being about seventy acres and one half of my bank land unto her and her heirs forever.

   Item 4# I also give unto my Son James WILLIAMS all the land that I now own that I patented laying on the west part of the plantation that I now live on & one half of my bank land & one bed & furnature to him & his heirs forever.

   Item 5# I give & bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Betsey ROBINSON after my wife's death one negro Girl named Caroline & one bed & furnature to her & her heirs forever.

   Item 6# I also give unto my son James WILLIAMS one negro boy named Daniel to him & his heirs forever.

   Item 7# I give the land I own in Buckskin unto Jno. W. HUGHES my Grand son to him & his heirs forever.

   Item 8# I leave the negroes Jack Amey and Solome and all my property not Given away after the death of my wife to be sold by my Executors and after paying my just debts to be divided between James WILLIAMS & Betsey HATFIELD, Betsey ROBINSON & the heirs of James HUGHES decd. as follows James WILLIAMS & Betsey HATFIELD to have three fifths & Betsey ROBINSON & James HUGHES heirs to have Two fifths that is Betsey ROBINSON to have one fifth.

   Lastly I nominate and appoint James WILLIAMS & Jno. C. HATFIELD my whole & sole Executors to this my last will & testament.

   In witness I have hereunto set my hand and seal Oct. 20th 1835.
