Hayes, Isaac Clarence Hayes
Isaac Clarence "Ike" Hayes was born in Wanchese, NC on Sept. 7, 1872 to
William M. Hayes and Frederick Ann "Fredanna"
Andrews [see her photo
here]. He married Nellie Jane Mann in Manteo on Aug. 27, 1893.
Nellie was the daughter of Lewis Washington Mann and his 2nd wife,
Doshia
Sawyer. According to her tombstone, Nellie was born in 1874 but many
other records indicate 1872. Ike died Oct. 31, 1945 [see his obituary
here].
Nellie died on Aug. 23, 1935. Both are buried in Cudworth Cemetery in
Wanchese. Ike and Nellie had the following children:
1) Mattie Pearl Hayes (1894-1985) - married
Dewey Elwood Mann, Sr.
2) Irma L. Hayes (1902-1946) - married
Luther
Haywood Midgett. Irma drowned while trying to save her youngest child,
Audrey Louise Midgett. Irma's death certificate can be seen
here.
