Lafayette Douglas Midgett, Sr. |
 Photo taken in the 1940's or 50's in front of his home in Buxton. Lafayette D. Midgett was born in Salvo to John Guthrie Midgett & Rhoda Ann Missouri Gray on Jan. 6, 1897. He married Lorena Pearl Bragg in Frisco on June 23, 1917 and they had three children: Burtron Hartley Midgett (1918-1931), Lafayette D. Midgett, Jr. (1920-1920) and Chesley Monroe Midgett (1921-2001). Lafayette died in Buxton Oct. 13, 1972. Comments from Ann Brewer Ianuario - According to my father, James Reese Brewer, Jr., Fate got up every morning at 4:30. By first light he was on the beach in his Willis jeep, looking for whatever washed up overnight. In warm weather he would swim, too. Dad remembers him swimming straight out from the beach until he was nearly out of sight before he returned. I remember running around Fate's back yard on walkways made of boat hatches laid end to end. The wood had a soft feel to bare feet, having been pelted by the sea before landing on the beach." |
