Thomas O. Sutton, Rosa (Tillett) Sutton & Helon Roxie Sutton

Thomas Odell Sutton, son of Charles Thomas Sutton and Virginia Dare (Mann) Sutton, was born at Manns Harbor on Oct. 16, 1901. He died in Norfolk, Va. on May 26, 1964 [see obit]. He married Rosa Lee Tillett in Manteo on Dec. 16, 1923. Rosa Lee was born in Manns Harbor on Sept. 1, 1905 to William Carvasso Tillett and Eleanor Ann (Twiford) Tillett. Rosa Lee died on March 2, 1969 [see obit]. Both are buried in the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church Cemetery in Manns Harbor. [see their tombstones here]

Thomas and Rosa had 4 children:
1) Helon Roxie Sutton - (Nov. 24, 1924 - May 10,1986 see obit) married Earlie Lee Armstrong

Earlie Lee Armstrong married Helon Roxie Sutton on Apr. 7, 1952. He was born in Hyde Co., NC to Isaiah Armstrong & Janie L. Neal on Feb. 2, 1912 & died July 15, 1968. Isaiah, Janie, Earlie & Helon are all buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Chesapeake, VA.

Sutton's Service station located near where the ferry pulled into Manns Harbor. Now converted into a house.

T.O. Sutton Freight made weekly trips to Elizabeth City and hauled freight back to Dare County.
