Dare County }I, John Shannon, Sr., of the aforesaid County and State, being of sound mind, but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence, do make and declare this my last Will and Testament.
First: my executor, hereinafter named shall give my body a decent burial, suitable to the wishes of my friends and relatives, and pay all funeral expenses, together with my just debts out of the first moneys which may come into my hands belonging to my estate.
Item; I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Samuel Jane Shannon and after her death to my youngest son Benjamin F. Shannon, all that tract of land including the home where I now live, beginning at what is know as the Cad King line and running to the Blivens line bounded on the east by Shallow Bag Bay and on the west by the State Highway, on the North by the Blivens place and on the South by the Cad King place.
Item: I hereby appoint my oldest son Charlie Shannon executor of this my last will and testament without bond other than required by law.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this the 19th day June, A.D. 1933.

A paper writing purporting to be the Last will and testament of John Shannon Sr. deceased, is exhibited before me, the undersigned, Clerk of the Superior Court for said county, by Charlie Shannon the executor therein mentioned, and the due execution thereof by the said John Shannon Sr. by the oath and examination of Hugh Basnight and Alfred Gard, the subscribing witness thereto, who being duly sworn, doth depose and say, and each for himself deposeth and saith, that he is a subscribing witness to the paper writing now shown him, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of John Shannon Sr.; that the said John Shannon Sr. in the presence of this deponent, subscribed his name at the end of said paper writing, which is now shown as aforesaid, and which bears date of the 19th day of June 1933.
And This Deponent Further Saith, That the said John Shannon Sr. the testator aforesaid, did, at the time of subscribing by him and exhibited to be his last Will and Testament, and this deponent did thereupon subscribe his name at the end of said Will, as an attesting witness thereto, and at the request and in the presence of said testator, and this deponent further saith that at the same time when the said testator subscribing his name to the said last Will as aforesaid, and at the time of the deponents subscribing his name as attesting witness thereto, as aforesaid, the said John Shannon Sr. was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a Will, and was not under any restraint to the knowledge, information or belief of this deponent and further these deponents say not.

It is therefore considered and adjudged by the Court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last Will and Testament of John Shannon Sr. deceased. Let said Will, together with the probate, be recorded and filed. This 14th day of July, 1933.

Shannon and Sarah Margaret Williams [death certificate below states maiden name was Whitehead], was born in Manteo on June 17, 1861 and died July 12, 1933. John married Samuel Jane "Sammy" Baum on Sept. 15, 1891 and to them were born the following children:
1. Mollie H. Shannon (1893-1975) married Hiram Clyde Gallop, Sr.
2. Charles Clifford "Charlie" Shannon (1896-1972) married Kate Basnight
3. Emily M. Shannon (1898-1973) married Chester Cuthbert Holmes
4. John F. Shannon, Jr. (1901-1971) married Lillie Gray Perry
5. Janie Shannon (1902-1971) married S. Marvin Rogers
6. Richard Pierson Shannon (1907-1977) married Mary Francis Mason
7. Wallace Warner Shannon (1910-1973) married Annie Marie Gray
8. Grace Leuman Shannon (1912-1975) married John Lee, Sr.
9. Charles S. Shannon (c1915-between 1920-30)
10. Benjamin Franklin Shannon (1916-1960) married Lula Rogers
