{"id":2964,"date":"2012-12-05T03:00:19","date_gmt":"2012-12-05T03:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ncgenweb.us\/duplin\/?p=2964"},"modified":"2012-12-05T03:00:19","modified_gmt":"2012-12-05T03:00:19","slug":"dickson-william-d-1820","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncgenweb.us\/duplin\/dickson-william-d-1820","title":{"rendered":"DICKSON, William (d. 1820)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">DIED &#8212; At his residence on Goshen, in Duplin County, in the 8&lt;?&gt; year of his age, Col. <strong>William DICKSON,<\/strong> a native of Chester County, Pennsylvania, but had lived in Duplin County about 76 years. \u00a0His useful public life commenced at an early period as a Surveyor throughout all the counties on the southern side of this State. \u00a0He was for many years a member of the State Legislature, before the Revolution, and from its commencement was a member of all the Conventions in the State; and was one of the members who ratified the Constitution of this State at Halifax, on the 18th day of December, 1776, of which body it is doubtful whether there be now a member living. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He entered the military service of his country as an officer in 1777, and continued in commission throughout the whole Revolutionary war, and was never absent in the hour of danger. \u00a0He was once wounded; in action, and sealed with his blood his attachment to the liberty and independence of his country. \u00a0The County Court of Duplin, after the change in Government in 1777, unanimously chose him their clerk, which office he held much to the satisfaction of the Court and people, for nearly 44 years. \u00a0He resigned in April last. \u00a0He died, as \u00a0he had lived, a zealous supporter of the Christian Religion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Source: <em>Newbern Sentinel newspaper of New Bern, NC. 22 Jul 1820. pg. 3.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DIED &#8212; At his residence on Goshen, in Duplin County, in the 8&lt;?&gt; year of his age, Col.
