Arthur Kenneth McDade
Arthur (Shorty) Kenneth McDade, 87, died at Durham Regional Hospital, Durham, NC, on Tuesday, August 12.
A graduate of Durham High School Class of ’36, Shorty played football and earned a spot on the All-State football team. He was a charter member of Glendale Heights United Methodist Church and enjoyed his time of fellowship with the Methodist Men. An active member of the community, Shorty was involved with the Durham Elks Club and the VA Hospital. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he was employed at the Herald-Sun for 35 years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alma Taylor McDade; two sons, Arthur Kenneth McDade Jr. and Walter Kerry McDade; one granddaughter, Jana McDade; one grandson, Orion McDade; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley and Brett McDade, and Madeleine, Roland, and Teaghan McDade.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 15, at Glendale Heights United Methodist Church, Durham, NC, with the Rev. Bill Snotherly officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Orange Grove, Orange County, NC.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, Durham, NC.
Pallbearers will be Orion McDade, Simon Barnes, Hugh White, Tom Bruce, and Rainey Hicks. Honorary pallbearers include the Methodist Men at Glendale Heights United Methodist Church, members of the Durham Elks Club, and the Herald-Sun Retirees Group.
