Dr. Troxler will talk about the topic\u00a0of her latest book, \u201cFarming Dissenters: The Regulator Movement in\u00a0Piedmont North Carolina\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the book summary from Amazon:\u00a0The Regulator Movement grew from the frustration of North Carolina\u2019s\u00a0backcountry residents\u2013frustration with local officials who ran their\u00a0offices for personal gain, disregarding the rights of the\u00a0residents\u2013frustration with a complicated land grant system that did not\u00a0guarantee clear ownership of land\u2013frustration with a colonial\u00a0legislature dominated by eastern political and economic interests. In\u00a0this new study, Dr. Carole Troxler steps back more than two decades\u00a0before the pivotal Battle of Alamance (May 16, 1771) to examine the\u00a0issues and their cultural context that fostered the Regulator Movement\u00a0and determined its progress, and political aftermath.
