The McCulloh Great Tracts \u2013 and their impact on<\/strong>
\ngenealogy research<\/strong><\/p>\n

Henry McCulloh was a typical adventurer in the realm of colonial
\npolitics and economics. He is said to have been a merchant of London,
\nand his home was at Turnham Green, Middlesex County. He probably became
\ninterested in North Carolina through his relations with Gabriel
\nJohnston, to whom he advanced considerable sums of money between 1726
\nand 1733.\u00a0 McCulloh\u2019s deepest interest in the New World was that of a
\nland speculator. In 1737, the Crown delivered to Murray Crymble and
\nJames Huey, trustees for McCulloh, warrants for 1,200,000 acres in North
\nCarolina, on condition that 6,000 foreign Protestants should be colonized.<\/p>\n

Stewart Dunaway, formerly an executive of Siemens Telecom (FL), is
\nretired and now spends time researching colonial and revolutionary war
\nhistory in North Carolina. He has published myriad historical books as
\nwell as genealogy-related material from the State Archives. He has
\ntranscribed over 19,000 records from the Archives, now provided in book
\nform. His books can be found on the internet at:
