McKAUGHAN<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>I.H. McKAUGHAN<\/strong>, father of <strong>C.M. McKAUGHAN<\/strong>, clerk of the superior court here, died yesterday at 12 o&#8217;clock at his home near Kernersville, aged 85 years. \u00a0He was born near High Point and spent all his life on his farm in Forsyth, and was well known and highly esteemed in the section in which he lived. \u00a0The announcement of his death has been received with regret by his many friends and acquaintances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Three and one-half years were given by<strong> Mr. McKAUGHAN<\/strong> to service in the Confederate forces during the Civil war, and in that great struggle he was always a faithful and gallant soldier, devoted to his duty and giving his services with unstinted loyalty. \u00a0He was a member of Norfleet camp, Confederate veterans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Mr. McKAUGHAN<\/strong> married twice. His first wife was <strong>Miss Esther C. ROBERTSON<\/strong>, who died in May 1898. To the first union there were seven children, three girls and four boys, and of these <strong>Leana<\/strong>, the oldest child, died when quite young, and <strong>Mrs. Mary HESTER<\/strong>, who died in 1896. \u00a0Children of the first marriage surviving are <strong>Mrs. Martha &lt;&#8230;&gt;teele,<\/strong> of Greensboro; <strong>D.E. McKAUGHAN<\/strong>, of Kernersville; <strong>C.M. McKAUGHAN<\/strong>, of Winston-Salem; <strong>A.H. McKAUGHAN<\/strong> and <strong>Charles R. McKAUGHAN,<\/strong> of Kernersville. \u00a0Twenty grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also are included among the descendants from the first union.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In July 1900, <strong>Mr. McKAUGHAN<\/strong> married<strong> Miss Mary N. PEGRAM<\/strong>. There were no children from this marriage. There was one adopted child, Carrie. \u00a0His second wife and five children by the first marriage and the adopted child survive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In early manhood <strong>Mr. McKAUGHAN<\/strong> became a member of the Methodist Protestant church near High Point. \u00a0After moving to the Kernersville section he became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church south of that place. \u00a0He remained a faithful member until the death. \u00a0He was one of the charter members of the Methodist Episcopal church and was always a most devoted attendant on the church services and in Sunday school.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Besides his children, <strong>Mr. McKAUGHAN<\/strong> is survived by one brother, <strong>J.W. McKAUGHAN,<\/strong> of Waughtown.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The funeral services will take place this afternoon at 3 o&#8217;clock from the Methodist Protestant church at Kernersville, and interment will be in the Methodist graveyard.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The pall bearers will be the grandchidlren, <strong>Dr. Oma HESTER<\/strong> of Hickory; <strong>Dr. Ray McKAUGHAN<\/strong>, of High Point; <strong>Dr. Hooker McKAUGHAN<\/strong>, of Gastonia; <strong>William McKAUGHAN<\/strong> and <strong>Duke McKAUGHAN<\/strong>, of Kernersville, and<strong> Robert McKAUGHAN<\/strong> of Winston-Salem.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Source: \u00a0Winston-Salem Journal, April 4, 1923.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Death Occurred Near Kernersville; Father of C.M.
