Surnames: Farr/Fair
Submitted by: Roy V. Fair
Email address: royvfair@bellsouth.net
Date: 08 MAR 2004
Query: I am trying to locate a likely fast moving stream called
Millstone Run which I believe lies in Franklin County. My
G/G/G/G/GF,
Joseph Fair (Farr) owned approximately 1000 acres of property in
old
Bute County in the period 1764-1770. Various deeds use the
following
location terminology:
SS of Tar River/SS of Woolf Pit Swamp. Since Woolf Pit Branch
is in
WARREN County and on the NORTH side of the Tar River, I believe
this to
be a transposition error and it really means Wolfpen Branch which
is
south of Louisburg and on the SOUTH side of the Tar River.
BS of Millstone Run
WS of Mare Branch, SS of Tar River adjacent to Fair
On Millstone to the swamp
On Millstone run and Swamp
On Millstone in the fork of the swamp adjacent to Farr
NS of Cedar Creek adjacent to Hurr (presumed to be Furr/Fair/Farr)
On Cedar Creek adjacent to Joseph Farr
On ES of Millstone to Sliding Rock, part of a grant to Joseph Fair
When I put all of this together (including assumptions), I am led
to
believe this locale is bounded on the east by the Tar River, on
the west
by US 401, on the south by Cedar Creek and on the north by Wolfpen
Branch. If I am correct then WHERE in this rough rectangle
is Millstone
Run (if it still retains that name) and Mare Branch. There
appears to
be at least seven streams that flow into Cedar Creek from the north
so
one or more of these may bear the names I am looking for. As to
the
swamps, many that existed in the mid 1700s would look quite different
today because of cleared land.
I would appreciate any feedback from local people who know this area
well. Is my logic good or flawed? If flawed, please
point me in
another direction.

Surnames: Eason
Submitted by: Bill Eason
Email address: easonmail@earthlink.net
Date: 24 DEC 2004
Query: I am doing research on Eason family from Nash County, N. C.
Oldest documented info I has is as follows:John Eason, born 3/19/1849
died 4/8/1917. Married to Nancy Mae Vester born 9/16/1866 died
2/11/1943. Info from John was from death certificate. His mother
was
listed as Willie Eason, father unknown. I assume he was illegitimate.
The Bastardy Bonds list William Strickland and Annice Eason on the
February, 1824 court. The 1850 census lists Annice or Annis at age
51
and Willie Ann at age 26 which would make her birth about 1824 and
her mother at 1799. Willie Ann obviously was illegitimate also.
What I am
trying to determine if all this is accurate is Annice/Annis Eason's
mother and
father's name since the maiden names were used for Willie and John.
If
you have done research on this family or have any info that might
help,
I would greatly appreciate it. I have been told since childhood
that my
decendants were Scotch-Irish. Unfortunately, all grandparents were
deceased before I was born; and I have no older living relatives
or
family Bibles to research. I realize these relatives were from Nash
County, but have been told that Nash,Edgecombe, were dirived from
Johnston and or Franklin or their ancestors could have moved from
there.
Any info you can supply will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Bill Eason

Query: I am a descendent of two seemingly large African American
Louisburg (Franklin County) families. I'm looking for any
descendents
of Simon and Susan Dunstan. These were my great-great-great
grandparents. They were married in 1840 in Franklin Co. They had
six
children that I know of(Edwin, Laura,Lila,John, Hilliard, and Willie)
Any information about them, their parents, or ANYTHING would be
great.
They were FREE blacks, not slaves.
The other side of my NC family is the Yarborough family. The
furthest
back that I've gotten with them is to Calvin R. Yarborough and wife,
Precilla. Their children were Lewis, Samuel, Sarah, Thomas,
Henry,
Quinea, Carrie, Josephine, Mattie, Calvin Jr., and Eugene.
These were
my great-great grandparents.
Both of these families appear to have stayed in the Louisburg area
at
least until about 1870. Most stayed even after that.
We didn't seem to
start to leave the area until the turn of the century, but even
then
when some of the younger folk started to leave, we still had a ton
of us
in Franklin Co.
