MEDICUS A. ALFORD, a Citizen of Franklin County in the State of North Carolina in the United States of America serving as a private in Company I in the Twelfth Regiment, United States Infantry, being on the 20th day of November 1847 in Perote in Mexico in view of his immediate disease doth make publish, and declare in presence of CAPT. WILLIAM J. CLARK, the following as his last Will and Testament to wit, that he gives and bequeaths to his well beloved uncle, ARTHUR B. COOK of Louisburg in the State of North Carolina all claims to Land Bounty and all pay and arrearages, and all claims of every kind due him by the United States for his services as a soldier in the War with Mexico, making him his sole heir and representative.

In the name of God Amen
Know all men that I RANSOM AYCOCK of the County of Franklin and state of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but knowing the certainty of death and the uncertainty of life do make this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following, That is in the first place my will and desire is that oldest son JOSEPH H. AYCOCK be paid from my Estate the sum of fifty dollars to be paid after the death of my beloved wife TABITHA AYCOCK secondly I give and bequeath to my beloved wife TABITHA AYCOCK the remainder of my whole Estate of every kind whatever during her natural life or widowhood and after her death or widowhood my wish and desire is that all and every part and parcel of the property be equally divided among our children, to wit, ELIZABETH LANCASTER, DOCTOR L. AYCOCK, AMBROSE AYCOCK, ALFRED S. AYCOCK, TABITHA NELMS, MARY A. GUPTON and NANCY GUPTON. My Executor hereinafter named will put the said NANCY GUPTON in possession of her Int in my Estate as before mentioned during her natural life and after her death to be put in the possession of her children and lastly do hereby constitute and appoint my son DOCTOR L. AYCOCK and my son in law E. A. GUPTON Executors to this my last Will and Testament. In testimony I do hereunto set my hand & seal this the 25th day of April A.D. 1862.

To the Worshipfull Justices of the County Court of Franklin
The Petition of NATHAN PATTERSON, ROBERT A. TAYLOR and SMITH PATTERSON shew that they are the owners and proprietors of a mulatto slave by the name of POLLYDORE whom they are desirous of liberating and setting free, that the uniformly good conduct of the said POLLYDORE coupled with his meritorious services will entitle him to the boon they wish to bestow, they therefore pray this worshipfull Court to emancipate and set free the said POLLYDORE by the name of POLLYDORE BRICKELL upon your petitioners performing what the law enjoins upon them as a duty and your petitioners will pray &c

Petition for Emancipation of POLLYDORE
Upon hearing the Petition of NATHAN PATTERSON, ROBERT A. TAYLOR and SMITH PATTERSON praying for the liberation of POLLYDORE a mulatto fellow who is now their slave for meritorious services, and the Court being fully satisfied as to said services do order adjudge and decree that the said POLLYDORE be Emancipated and set free by the name of POLLYDORE BRICKELL and that he henceforth enjoy all the rights and proviledges of a free person of color.
It is further ordered that the said Petitioners enter into Bond and Security in the sum of One hundred pounds the condition of which that the said POLLYDORE shall not become chargeable to the County.

In the name of God I DANIEL EDWARDS do make and constitute this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following this 27 of April A.D. 1844.
Item- I lend to my beloved wife ELIZA EDWARDS all of my whole Estate that is my land and plantation houses, stock of every kind, house hold and kitchen furniture of al sorts, all of my beds & furniture, with everything I possess as long as she lives.
Item- After her death it is my will that all of my Estate be equally divided between my two children, that is my son WM. H. EDWARDS & my daughter MARGARET R. RUDD, that is to W. H. EDWARD and his heirs forever and but to my daughter MARGARET R. RUDD and her children forever.

In the name of God Amen, I ELIZABETH FAWN being in sound mind and disposing memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, viz,
I give to my son WILLIAM H. STAINBACK, three hundred and fifty dollars to him and his heirs, and half my stock of hogs & one pair of sheets and one counter pane.
Secondly- I gave my son JAMES STAINBACK, three hundred and fifty dollars, to him and his heirs, and one sorrel horse one pair of sheets & one counterpane, and half my stoch of hogs and one cow & calf one sorrel horse.
Thirdly- I give to my daughter NANCY BLEDSOE three hundred & fifty dollars to her and hr heirs.
Fourthly- I give to my daughter WILMOUTH, three hundred dollars to her and her heirs.
Fifthly- It is my will and desire that the residue of my property be sold and equally divided between WILLIAM H. STAINBACK, JAMES STAINBACK, NANCY BLEDSOE and WILMOUTH DEVANY, and do hereby nominate TOLIVER FERRELL my Executor to this my last Will and Testament, witness my hand and seal this 2d day of July 1847.

Report of the Division of the Slaves between JOHN & ALFRED HUNT
Agreeable to an order issuing from the worshipful County Court of Franklin to us directed we the undersigned Commissioners have met at the lat residence of JOHN HUNT dec'd & have proceeded to divide the residue of Negroes belonging to the Estate of said JNO HUNT between JOHN HUNT & ALFRED HUNT legatees of sd HUNT dec'd viz:
We have allotted to JOHN HUNT the following viz- CLAYTON, DAVID, PHEREBY & child MOSES, CHARLOTTE, TEMPE, JOHN & LODOWICK which are valued to Forty Hundred & Seventy five dollars $4075.
We have allotted to ALFRED HUNT the following viz STEPHEN, DICK, SEALY & MARTHA her child PHILLIS, PEGGY, BEN, JENNY & ARON which lot of Negroes are valued to Forty Hundred & Seventy five dollars $4075 all which we most respectfully submit. Given under our hands &c this 30th day of December 1818.

Division of the Lands of JOHN HUNT dec'd
Pursuant to an order of the worshipful the County Court of Franklin we the undersigned commissioners accompany'd by the County Surveyor proceed to survey and divide the lands of JOHN HUNT dec'd between his sons JOHN and ALFRED HUNT agreeable to the will of said JOHN dec'd and find that there are 2429½ acres undisputed viz 1100 acres on the west side of Rays Creek and a line running from GEORGE WINSTON's uper corner on said Creek So. 43½ D?? West to an outer line leaving on the west side of So. boundary 1100 acres which was drawn by ALFRED HUNT the East side of said Creek and line as above stated containing 1329 acres was drawn by JOHN HUNT which said survey we conceived to be equal and which Division will be more fully explained by a reference to the surveyors plot hereunto annexed all of which is respectfully submitted. Given under our hands 7 seals this 25th day of January 1818.

In the name of God Amen I ROBERT G. JEFFREYS of the County of Franklin and State of North Carolina being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made.
After the payment of my funeral expenses and all my just debts I give and dispose of the balance and residue of my estate in manner and form following to wit,
I give bequeath and desire to my beloved wife REBECCA in addition to her dower one hundred and twenty five acres of land adjoining to her said Dower to her and her heirs. Also I give and bequeath to my beloved wife REBECCA one fifth part of all my Negro slaves except four of said slaves to wit, NELLY, VICTORIA, MARTHA and CHARLOTTE hereinafter disposed of to her and her heirs, but in case my wife shall marry again then this desire and bequest shall b void and of no effect and in that event I give bequeath and desire the said land and slaves to my four children as follows- one fourth part of the said land and slaves to my daughter JOSEPH ANN FREEMAN and to the issue of her body living at her death. One fourth part to my daughter ANGELINE G and her heirs. One fourth to my daughter REBECCA ROBERT and her heirs. One fourth part to my son CLARANCE CHEVES and his heirs. And in the event my daughter JOSEPH ANN FREEMAN should die without issue of her body living at her death I give and bequeath her share of said land and slaves to my three other children as named herein to be equally divided amongst them to them and their heirs.
I give bequeath and desire to my son CLARANCE CHEVES JEFFREYS five hundred acres of land to him and his heirs in fee simple. Also Negro girl CHARLOTTE and her increase from this time to him and his heirs also the sum of Eight hundred Dollars for the completion of his education.
I give and bequeath to my daughter REBECCA ROBERT JEFFREYS Negro girl MARTHA and her increase from this time to her and her heirs. Also the sum of Three hundred Dollars to be expended in her education.
I give and bequeath to my daughter ANGELINE G. JEFFREYS Negro girl VICTORIA and her increase from this time to her and her heirs.
I give and bequeath to my daughter JOSEPH ANN FREEMAN Negro girl NELLY and her increase from this time to her and to the issue of her body living at her death and if she should die without such issue I give and bequeath the said Negro girl and her increase to my three other children to them and their heirs. I give LUCY MURRAY a support for her life.
I give bequeath and desire all the balance and residue of my land Negro slaves and property of every description to my four children to be equally divided among them share and share alike. One fourth part thereof to my daughter ANGELINE G. JEFFREYS and her heirs. One fourth part thereof to my daughter REBECCA ROBERT JEFFREYS and her heirs. One fourth part thereof to my son CLARANCE CHEVES JEFFREYS and his heirs and one fourth part thereof to my daughter JOSEPH ANN FREEMAN and the issue of her body living at her death and in case she should die without such issue then and in that case I give bequeath and desire her fourth part to my three other children ANGELINA G., REBECCA ROBERT, and CLARANCE CHEVES to them and their heirs in fee simple.
Lastly I hereby nominatge constitute and appoint my friend and relative WILLIAM F. GREEN Esq my Executor to this my last Will and testament.

I do by this writing which I hereby declare to be a codicil to my said Will direct that three Negro slaves GEORGE, CHANY and SALLY only be given to my wife insted of one fifth part of all my Negro slaves as directed in my said Will. Angelina G. who has married THOMAS CONYERS since my making my last Will and testament, two Negro slaves LUCAS(?) and SIMON insted of VICTORIA as directed in my said Will to have and to hold them and every other species of property to her and the issue of her body living at the death in the same manner & form as my bequests are made, and entailed, to my daughter JOSEPH ANN FREEMAN. Will of WILLIAM JONES- 1841

In the name of God Amen, I,, WILLIAM JONES of the County of Franklin and State of North Carolina being in sound mind but of advanced age and suffering bodyly afflictions and feeling disposed to give to my family what worldly goods I now possess in the following manner, do first give my Soul to God who givith and taketh at his pleasure blessed be his holy name. I give as follows
Item the first- I give to my son JOHN Y. JONES five shillings in addition to what I have heretofore given him, to his heirs and assigns forever.
Item the Second- I give to my daughter MARTHA R. HIGHT the sum of five shillings in addition to what I have heretofore given her, to her and her heirs and assigns forever.
Item the third- After all my just debts are paid it is my Will and desire that all and singular my property of all description shall remain as it now is together for a permanent home for my wife ELIZABETH and my daughter MARY B., SARAH R., ELIZABETH, and NANCY, and my sons RICHARD, LEWELLIN R & GEORGE W. as long as they may live, except what land I own on the west side of Linches Creek and a small slise on the east side of Linches Creek, beginning at Sim's line not more than ten or 12 acres, which my executors may sell for the purpose of paying my just debts.
I nominate my two sons LEWELIN R., GEORGE W. JONES as executors to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I have set my hand and seal this 26th day of January A.D. 1841.

Will of GEORGE RICHARDS- 1818

In the name of God amen I GEORGE RICHARDS of the County and State aforesaid being of sound mind and disposing memory do think proper to make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, viz,
Item 1st. I give and bequeath unto each of my sons JOSHUA RICHARDS, STEPHEN RICHARDS & GEORGE RICHARDS the sum of one dollar each.
Item 2nd. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter PATSEY DAVIS one bead [sic] and furniture her choice one bound tea table her choice of my chests, my loom & all the [blank] thereunto belonging and also one third part of all my personal property of whatsoever nature or kind it may consist in with the exception of my Negro woman HICKSEY to her, her heirs & assigns forever.
Item 3rd. I give and bequeath unto my son THOMAS C. RICHARDS and unto my two Grand Sons JOHN & JETER HOG sons of my deceased daughter JANE HOG the remaining two thirds of all my personal estate of whatsoever nature or kind it may consist in except the aforesaid Negro woman HICKSEY that is to say I give to THOMAS C. RICHARDS the one half of the two thirds of my estate hereby given to him his heirs & assigns forever & the other half to be equally divided between JOHN and JETER HOG on their arrival at lawfull age & in the event that of them should dye before they arrive at lawfull age it is my will and desire that the survivor have the whole estate hereby intended to be divided between them to them their heirs & assigns forever.
Item 4th. It is my will and desire that my Negro woman HICKSEY who hath always been a faithfull and dutiful slave be liberated and set free and I do hereby request and enjoin it on my Exeutors herein after named to use all lawfull means in their power to have her emancipated & set free but should my desire to have the said Negro woman HICKSEY set free prove abortive, it is my will and desire that my son JOSHUA RICHARDS shall have the said Negro woman HICKSEY not doubting but he will endeavour to comply with my will or maintain my said Negro HICKSEY on easy terms & not on the of real bondage and that he will act towards her the part of a friend more than that of a master.
I hereby nominate and appoint my friends AMUS JONES, JOHN PERRY (thicket) and JESSE GORDON to this my last will and testament whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 17th June A.D. 1818.

Will of THOMAS SHERROD- 1818

In the name of God amen I THOMAS SHERROD of the County of Franklin and State of North Carolina do make constitute and ordain this my last will and testament as follows viz
Item. I lend to my beloved wife ELIZABETH SHERROD for during the term of his life two Negroes to wit Old VILET and TILLER I also lend to my said wife ELIZABETH for during the term of ten years two other Negroes CHARLES and DICK. Should my wife ELIZABETH die before the expiration of Ten Years after my will goes into effect the said CHARLES and DICK is to serve TEMPERANCE YOUNG my daughter the ballance of the ten years then my will and desire is that my Executor and Executrix that I shall hereafter appoint shall set the said CHARLES and DICK free from slavery.
Item. I give and bequeaath to my said wife ELIZABETH SHERROD one bed and furnature her choice one chest of drawers one half doz plates, knives and forks, one basin one desk and one half doz chairs ten pounds of coffee and twenty pounds of sugar, the coffee and sugar to be bought and paid for with money that is alreaddy in the house to her and her heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter TEMPERANCE YOUNG seven Negroes to wit, BARBARY, CAROLINA, MINGO, PLEASANT, PRICY, and TILLER (VILET and TILLER after the death of my wife ELIZABETH) also the track of land that I now live on and all the adjoining tract to the said tract I have on that I shall not hereafter give away by this my will and the said TEMPERANCE YOUNG is to live with my said wife ELIZABETH and with the labour of the before mentioned Negroes CHARLES, DICK, VILET and TILLER together with the income of the plantation or a sufficency there of support my wife ELIZABETH during her life Then the above lands and Negroes except CHARLES and DICK is to her and her Heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter CHARRITY RICHARDS one Negro man JACK to her and her heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter MARTHA WEAVER twenty shillings to her and her heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter PENNY SHERROD one bed & furniture the second choice I lend to my daughter PENNY SHERROD for during the term of her life three Negroes to wit VINEA [sic], NANCY and MILBERRY also the tract of land I bought of JOHN E. DENSON after her death the land and three Negroes VINEY, NANCY and MILBERRY is to be equally divided between my Grand sons and Daughter WILLIAM YOUNG, THOMAS YOUNG and NANCY YOUNG to them and their heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my son JAMES SHERROD five shillings to him and his heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Daughter NANCY HAYES an Negro woman ROSE and her increase to her and her heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Grand Son WILLIAM YOUNG one Negro named ROCHESTER, my mare, ready money also. The tract of land I bought of EDMOND HOWZE to him and his heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to JORDAN R. SHERROD formerly JORDAN R. STEGALL one bed and furniture one Negro named ISAAC one mare cald Charles' mare to him and his heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Grand daughter BETSEY PULLIAM one Negro boy named EATON to her and her heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Grand sons JOSEPH and JOHN WEAVER one Negro named BOOKER to them and there[sic] heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Grand son THOMAS YOUNG one Negro boy named ALFRED and my young stud colt to him and his heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter NANCY YOUNG one Negro girl named VILET one bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter JACOBINA SHERROD one bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Daughter TEMPERANCE YOUNG and JORDAN R. SHERROD formally JORDAN R. STEGALL all of my stock of horses, cattle, hogs, sheep, corn fodder, wheat, oats, house and kitchen furniture together with my blacksmiths and plantation tools that has not been before mentioned to be equally divided between them to them and their heirs forever.
I also will my Newport tract of land to be sold by my Executor and Executrix that I shall hereafter appoint on a credit of Twelve months and the money arising from the sale of said land to be divided between TEMPERANCE YOUNG, WILLIAM YOUNG, THOMAS YOUNG and JORDAN R. SHERROD formerly JORDAN R. STEGALL to them and their heirs forever.
Lastly I constitute and appoint MARMADUKE N. JEFFREYS, JORDAN R. SHERROD, TEMPERANCE YOUNG and PENNY SHERROD Executors and Executrix to this my last Will and Testament. In witness I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 11th day of July 1818.

In the name of God Amen, I ELIZABETH SPARKS of the County of Franklin and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following, that is
First. I give to MARY WHITE my niece, five hundred dollars, one bed and furniture and my carry all.
Item 2d. I give and bequeath to my nephew SHEMUEL KEARNEY my nephew all the balance of my property and estate to him and his heirs forever, and I appoint him my Executor. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 16th day of November 1847.

This Indenture of two parts made agreed & entered into, by SIMON WILLIAMS of the County of Nash & State of No. Carolina of the first part, & LYDIA ANDREWS of the County of Franklin & State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that for & in consideration of a marriage intended (by God's permission) to be had & solemnized between said SIMON WILLIAMS & LYDIA ANDREWS that in the first place, the said SIMON WILLIAMS on his part, covenants agrees & binds himself, & does by these presents, covenant agree, & bind himself his heirs &c that he will relinquish and does hereby relinquish all right title and claim which may accrue to him by said marriage, to all the Estate both real & personal which the said LYDIA is at this time seized & possessed, or which she at any time hereafter may be sized & possessed. The said LYDIA ANDREWS now on her part, covenants agrees & binds herself and does by these presents covenant agree and herself her heirs &c that she will relinquish and does hereby relinquish, all right, title & claim which may accrue to her by said marriage, to all the Estate, both real & personal, which the said SIMON is at this time seized & possessed or which he may at any time hereafter be seized & possessed. In testimony whereof we SIMON WILLIAMS & LYDIA ANDREWS, have hereunto set our hands & affixed our Seals this Seventeenth day of July in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred & Seventeen.
