Surveyed by Elsie Richardson Nov. 27, 1998 Location approximately four miles south on Acorn Hill Road between the intersections of Route 158 and Sandy Cross Road. Heading south, cemetery is in a small fenced area on left side of road set back off the road behind property where the old Rhodolpha Stallings home was before it was torn down years ago. Smith Cemetery (African-American)
Surveyed by Patricia Hall in Dec. 2001 This cemetery is located on the Buckland Plantation. Buckland Plantation located five miles south of the Virginia line, in Gates County, NC (US 37 North:1/2 mile from the Buckland Elementary School.) Actually there are two cemeteries on the Buckland Plantation: First cemetery– Approximately 26 crepe myrtle trees line the driveway leading to the mansion & each tree represents an unmarked grave of a slave. Buckland Plantation. Second cemetery–this is the Smith Family Cemetery. Location: North of the Mansion approximately 30 yards. No fence or walls. The oldest grave: 1915. Charlie D.
