RIDDICK, Susan – Celebrates Her 100th Birthday (2002)
SUFFOLK, Va. – Mrs. Susie B. Riddick, formerly of Corapeake and now living with her daughter and son-in-law, Jimmy and Rebecca Bradshaw of Suffolk celebrated her 100th birthday Aug. 29, 2002 with about 85 friend and relatives who attended an Open House in her honor.
Over 100 cards, 21 floral arrangements and numerous other gifts helped to make her day special.
Of particular interest was a letter from President Bush, written from his Crawford, TX ranch congratulating Riddick on a remarkable life. He wrote, “We join your family and friends in wishing you a wonderful day of celebration. May you be surrounded by the warmth of happy memories and secure in the knowledge that you have made the world a better place. God bless you. Sincerely, George Bush.”
Closer from home came a letter from Mrs. Margaret Felton Rountree, a 92-year-old former pupil at the Old Gates High School, wishing her 100-year-old teacher a happy birthday. She wrote, “I am enclosing a little check representing a dime a year for something to cheer you a wee bit.”
Mrs. Riddick on Saturday was joined by her immediate family, who gathered at the Bradshaw home for a cookout.
