It did not imply a familial relationship with a man who had the same name and was labeled “Sr” — although that could be the case. Also, the same man could be called “Jr” one year and “Sr” a few years later because of the arrival or departure or death of another man in the same county.

Guilford County Landowners with date and map key:

Nottingham Tract
Granville Grant
McCulloh Grant
North Carolina state grant
Others are purchases or grants or inheritance

Mc
James McAdow/McAdoo ~ D4 SE 1782, E4 NE 1782
John McAdow/McAdoo ~ E4 NE 1756
John McDonald (McAdow) ~ C5 SE 1761
John McBride ~ D5 SW 1783, E5 SW 1782
Hance McCain ~ B4 SW 1788
Hugh McCaleb ~ B1 NE 1782 (crosses Guilford/Forsyth line)
Nathaniel McCammey ~ B3 NE 1794
John McCarrell/McCarroll ~ D5 SE 1782
Lamas McCarty (McCarthy?) ~ E3 NW 1784
John McClintock, Sr. ~ B6 SW 1782
John McClintock ~ C4 NE 1753
John McClintock, Jr. ~ B6 NW 1785
Robert McClintock ~ B6 NW 1797
William McClintock ~ B6 NW 1797, C4 NE 1797
John MacClure ~ F1 NE 1780
Barney McCollum ~ E4 SW 1785
Jesse McCombs ~ D6 SW 1782
James McComb ~ D6 SW 1778
John McConnell ~ A4 SE 1752(x2)
Samuel McCrackin ~ B2 SW 1778
Hannah McCrory ~ B3 NW 1778
James McCuiston, Sr. ~ C4 NE 1759
James McCuiston ~ B3 SW 1762, B4 SW 1759
James McCuiston, Jr. ~ B4 SW 1765
Jane McCuiston ~ D2 NE 1760 –
