I write you in regard to the children of LEWIS RICHARDSON's wife & suit of by
ANTHONY BULLOCK. LEWIS now wishes to have the children placed under JANE
RICHARDSON who is a very suitable and smart woman, and has a good character in
this neighborhood. I told ANTHONY BULLOCK I could not recommend his wife to you
at all. She is a bad character; only a few weeks ago she left her husband and is
considered a worthless & dissolute woman. RICHARDSON has always taken care of
the children well, and no complaint has been heard until recently. Whether the
charge is true as to his cohabiting with the girl EMMA, I dont know.
He says EMMA wishes to stay with JANE RICHARDSON. I think the children will be
much better cared for & more properly raised, by her, then by any colored woman
in our neighborhood.
I write this only to acquaint you with the facts on the mother, and without any
partiality for RICHARDSON or BULLOCK. I think you will find my statements
endorsed by all persons who know the parties.
Yours Truly,
F. M. GARRETT
We, the undersigned know JANE RICHARDSON wife of NORFLEET RIHARDSON to be a
suitable person to take under her care as guardian three children recently
living with LEWIS RICHARDSON and now without a home.

Dear Sir;
ANTHONY is trying to get LEWIS children & GREGORY writes me that if he can bring
good ?????ids of character, he will bind them. LEWIS must get up a petition for
himself. I told ANTHONY I could not recommend his wife. I can recommend JANE

Dear Sir:
From the enclosed note from DR. GARRETT and from what I shall hereinafter
attempt to set forth I trust you may sufficiently comprehend the matter to be
brought before you by the bearer LEWIS RICHARDSON to enable you to dispose of a
case between him and ANTHONY BULLOCK, involving the binding of three step
children of LEWIS, of whom recently indicted him for criminal assault.
ANTHONY BULLOCK's wife has no character for virtue.
LEWIS is willing and he is at present their only guardian, that the children
shall be bound to his sister-in-law JANE RICHARDSON who comes recommended by DR.
GARRETT and I have no doubt is a suitable person to take charge of children.
These children are at present "at leu" so far as a stable landing place is
concerned and between LEWIS, ANTHONY and JANE the latter must be the more
suitable person to take charge of small children. I don't know JANE, but at all
events, the other two are not competent to assume the trust.
Very truly &c
