November Court 1796 On complaint to this Court, by ABIGAIL RICHARDSON formerly ABIGAIL SCOTT, ordered that a citation issue against SAMUEL HAWKINS to be appear at the next Session to show cause if any he hath wherefore he hath not complyd with and carried into effect and order of the County Court made at ____ Session 17______in favor of the said ABIGAIL respecting a baseborn child &c (the dates within the order are blank) August Court 1797 SAMUEL BRADLEY who was charged with begetting a base born child on the body of ELIZABETH WILLIE, a single woman, came in Open Court and therefore ordered into bond of twenty five pounds to leave harmless &c the parish respecting the support of the child. Securities were GEORGE WILLIAMSON & JOSHUA HOPKINS. November Court 1797 STARLING WOOD appearing in Open Court respecting a base born child begot by him on the body of SALLY POWELL, it thereupon ordered that the said STARLING WOOD pay to the said SALLY POWELL the sum of five pounds for lying in expenses as also the sum of four pounds annually for seven years, and that he enter into bond in the sum of one hundred pounds with good & sufficient security to pay the order into effect as also to leave harmless & indemnify the parish, bond executed with JESSE READ & BENJAMIN ALLEN WELDON surety. May Court 1798 JAMES WEAVER charged with bastardy by a certain MARTHA LINCH for having begot two base born children on her body appearing in Open Court & it appearing that the said MARTHA was full & truly satisfyd. On motion ordered that he enter into bond in the sum of one hundred pound with two security, to save harmless & indemnify the Parish &c bond executed with SAMUEL WILLIAMS & ZADOCK BELL securitys May Court 1799 LEWIS WRIGHT charged with begetting a base born child on the body of SILVEY WHEELESS a single woman. Appearing in Court and the same being taken into consideration it ordered by the Court that he pay to the said SILVEY the sum of seven pounds ten shillings for lying in expenses & also a farther sum of seven pounds ten shillings annually for five years next ensuing & that he enter into bond of £250 with two good & sufficient suretys to abide by & perform this order & at all times hereafter to save harmless & indemnify the parish &c bond executed with HARDY WHEELESS & JOHN WRIGHT suretys. JAMES TURNER charged with begetting two base born children on the body of SALLY EDMONDSON appearing in Court, and the same being taken into consideration it is therefore ordered that he pay to the said SALLY the sum of ten pounds for lying in expenses and charged a farther sum of seven pounds ten shillings annually for five years next ensuing & that he enter into bond of £250 with two good & sufficient suretys to abide by & perform this order &c and at all times hereafter to save harmless & indemnify the parish &c bond executed with JOHN DUBERRY & LEMUEL K CLIFTON Suretys. August Court 1799 Order that JAMES CONNER who was charged with begetting a base born child on the body of MOLLY HARVEY pay unto the said MOLLY HARVEY the sum of five pounds for lying in expenses, as also the sum of five pounds annually for five years next ensuing. DANIEL BARKSDALE who was charged with having begot a bastard child on the body of MARIAM SCOTT a single woman, appearing in open court. On motion ordered that he pay to the said MARIAM SCOTT the sum of four pounds annually for six years and that he enter into bond of two hundred pounds to carry this order into affect as also to save harmless & indemnify the parish with two good & sufficient suretys bond executed with JOSHUA HOPKINS & FRANCE POWER suretys. November Court 1799 Ordered that PHILLIP PERRY charged with begetting a base born child on the body of REBECCA KING a single woman, pay to the said REBECCA the sum of seven pounds for lying in expenses and also the sum of five pounds annually for five years next ensuing & that he enter into bond of £200 with two good & sufficient suretys to carry into effect this order & save harmless & indemnify the parish bond executed with BENJAMIN JOYNER & JOHN WARD suretys. HENRY QUALLS charged with begetting a base born child on the body of NANCY LYALL, ordered that he pay to the said NANCY LYALL the sum of seven pounds for lying in expenses & also the sum of seven pounds annually for five years next ensuing & that he enter into bond of £200 with two good & sufficient suretys to perform that order & save harmless & indemnify the parish &c bond executed with PETER QUALLS & JERRY BRINKLY suretys. February Court 1800 HARDY SEAT who was charged with having begot a base born child on the body of MARY HAWKS a single woman appearing in open court, on motion ordered that he pay to the said MARY HAWKS the sum of £5 for lying in expenses as also the sum of £5 annually for five years next ensuing & that he enter in bond of £50 with one good & sufficient security to carry the order into effect &c as also to save harmless & indemnify the parish respecting the prenacy[sic]; bond entere with EPHRAIM KNIGHT surety. JAMES CONNER who was charged with having begot a base born child on the body of MARY HARVEY a single woman appearing in open court on motion ordered that he pay to the said MARY the sum of five pounds for lying in expenses as also the sum of £5 annually for five years next ensuing & that he enter in bond of £200 with two good & sufficient suretys to carry this order into effect & to save harmless and indemnify the parish &c bond executed with STERLING HARWELL & JAMES DANIEL suretys. (same person as "Molly Harvey" in 1799) JESSE BROOKS who is charged with having begot a base born child on the body of PATTY ARCHER, it appearing to the Court that he has made satisfaction to the said PATTY for lying in expenses &c it is therefore ordered that he enter into bond of £25 to save harmless & indemnify the parish with one good & sufficient surety bond executed with JAMES WEAVER surety. August Court 1800 JOHN JONES charged with begetting a base born child on the body of ELIZABETH HARLEY a single woman, appearing in open court and the same being taken into consideration it is therefore ordered that he pay to the ELIZABETH five pounds for lying in expenses & as also he enter into bond of £100 with two good & sufficient suretys & abide by & perform this order &c to save harmless the parish &c, and farther it is considered by the court that any which it appears that the said JOHN JONES hath already paid to the said ELIZABETH be deducted &c, bond executed with JOHN WHITAKER & BENJAMIN JOYNER SURETYS. JOHN GUNTER charged with begetting a base born child on the body of FANNY MERRITT a single woman, appearing in open court & the same being taken into consideration, it is there ordered that he enter into bond of £100 with one good & sufficient security to save harmless & indemnify the parish &c, bond executed with FREDERICK MERRITT Surety. JOHN GUNTER charged with begetting a base born child on the body of MARY MERRITT a single woman, appearing in open court & the same being taken into consideration it is therefore ordered that he enter into bond of £100 with good & sufficient suretys to save harmless & indemnify the parish &c, bond entered with STEPHEN W. CARNY, MATTHEW C. WHITAKER, HENRY MOTLY, THOMAS H. SCOTT, EDWARD KING & JAMES BRANCH Suretys. May Court 1801 On motion, ordered that JESSE DAVIDSON who is now confined in the publick goal on charges of bastardy at the instance of NANCY PARTIN & MARY SIKES, it appearing to the court that the said JESSE is in very indigent circumstances & unable to answer the premises as directed by act of assembly &c he be forthwith discharged from his confinement on paying the prison fees.
