Camp of Highland Rangers, Weir Bottom Church, Va., August 18th, 1862
The undersigned having been appointed, in behalf of the Highland Rangers, to draft resolutions concerning the
death of Serg't John H. Hodges, submit the following preamble and resolutions: Whereas, it has pleased Almighty
God in His wisdom and providence, to take from our midst, our companion in arms, Serg't. John H. Hodges, who died
after a protracted illness at the residence of his father in Harnett County, NC, on the 9th of July; therefore,
Resolved, That in his death, the South has last a good soldier, a true and noble son, and our company has lost a
valuable member.
Resolved, that we extend our sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of the deceased.
Resolved, that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family of the deceased, and to the Raleigh Standard
