The original name of this church was Turpin Chapel. Hwy. 276 Waynesville Haywood County, NC To get to this cemetery, take Hwy 276 from Waynesville toward Dellwood. Maple Grove United Methodist Church and cemetery will be on the right and easily visible from the road. This is a very old cemetery and church which are very well cared for. There are perhaps 100+ graves marked with uninscribed fieldstones or markers and unreadable funeral home markers. This cemetery is still in use. The marker at the church reads: "Edward Hyatt and his wife settled on this property in the early 1780's. Edward and his friends built one of the first churches in Haywood County on these grounds." |
