John Burns, Widow's Pension Application
State of North Carolina, On this 13th day of December A. D. 1845 personally appeared before
me, E. S. Howell, a Magistrate in and for the said county, Sarah Leatherwood,
a resident of said county, and after being duly sworn according to law,
doth on her oath declare that she is a daughter of John Burns and Ann
his wife, now Ann McKizick who is now an applicant for a pension and
a citizen of Haywood County North Carolina, that she was born on the
7th day of February Seventeen hundred & eighty one (1781) and she
is the fifth child of the said John Burns & Ann his wife. That she
has her own age as copyed from her Mother’s record of the ages of her
Family, which one of her Brothers carried from this Country to some
of the Western Countries many years ago which said record is a precise
copy from her Mother except her name was changed from Sarah Burns to
Sarah Leatherwood, which said copy was placed in her own Bible in the
handwriting of one of her Brothers together with her own Family Record,
which is herewith sent and of which the following is a copy. **Howell adds to the document to say that Sarah has been a resident of Haywood County for twenty years or more, and that she is an intelligent woman.** |
