Garren with and for the County and   State aforesaid, Olive Duncan, aged seventy two years, a resident of   Henderson Co, in the State of North Carolina who being duly sworn according   to law, declares that she is the widow of Hiram Duncan deceased who was a   private in the company* commanded by Capt______, in the _Regiment   of_____commanded by unknown, in the war of 1812 (blanks not filled in)\u00a0   that her said husband volunteered at Rutherfordton NC on or about the tenth   day of February AD 1812 for the term of two years, and continued in actual   service in said war for the term of fourteen days, and was honorabley   discharged I think at Wadesborro NC at the close of the war, AD 18__.<\/p>\n<p>She further states that she was   married to the said Hiram Duncan in Rutherford County NC on the sixth day of   January AD 1814, by one George Flack, a Justice of the Peace and that her   name before her said marriage was Olive Hill: that her said husband died at   his residence in Henderson Co on the fourteenth day of July AD 1867 and that   she is now a widow.<\/p>\n<p>She further makes this declaration for   the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she may be entitled under   the act approved March 1855.\u00a0 She also declares that she has not   received or applied for bounty land under this or any other act of Congress,   except as above mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>I hereby authorize and empower B. D.   Hyam City Washington DC my Attorney, to prosecute this my claim, to receive   any certificate or warrant which may be issued in my name, receipt for the   same, and receive any and all moneys due thereon, giving unto ____full power   to endorse my name on said certificate or warrant and to do any other act in   my name necessary to the full and final settlement of the claim.<\/p>\n<p>W. Dearson in the war with Great   Brittain discharged by the United States on the 18<sup>th<\/sup> day of June   1812. Olive Dunkin age 74 and gives the   same service information for Hiram as previously given. Last paragraph says   &#8221; that she was married under the name of Olive Hill to said Hiram Dunkin   on the 6 day of January AD 1814 by George Flack at Mountain Creek NC, there   being no legal barrier to such marriage; that her said husband died at Blue   Ridge on 14 July 1867\u2026\u2026&#8221; Signed Olive Dunkin (her mark) witnessed Andrew   R. Shipman and Mar? Clark<\/p>\n<p><strong>Page   18<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;State of North Carolina,   Henderson County&#8221;&#8221; This day personally appeared before me Lewis   Hill after being duly sworn declares and says that he was an eye witness to   the marriage of Hiram Dunkin to the now surviving widow Olive Dunkin on the 6   January 1814 and that they lived together as man and wife until the death of   the said Hiram Dunkin who died at his residence at Blue Ridge NC on 14 July   1867.
