Elva Ray McGowen was born Jan. 15, 1905 at Houston, Texas Co., MO. He was married to Sarah Ellen Thompson on Dec. 29, 1928 in Springfield, Greene Co., MO. She was born Aug. 13, 1910, the daughter of William Franklin and Lunda Caroline (McDaniel) Thompson. Elva Ray died on Feb. 5, 1991 at Merced, Merced Co., CA. They were parents of six children: Bobby Eugene (died young), Mary Ellen, Patsy Ruth, Louis Raymond, Richard Vernon, and William Ralph McGowen.
