The Spencer Family
All of these records are contributed by Edward Garrison, son of Oral Leon Garrison (1899-1972 & Mary Page Spencer (1916-1998), grandson of Edward Orizon Spencer (1866-1937) & his 2nd wife, Marie Fitchett (1891-1919), great-grandson of John Warren Spencer (1834-1926) & Mary Elizabeth Fisher (1844-1929) and great-great-grandson of Selby Spencer (c1809-1881) & Juletta A. Credle (c1809-after 1881). They were found in the Swan Quarter home of Edward O. Spencer & his 3rd wife, Esther Swann Brown, in a rather large unlocked safe in a small closet off the kitchen under the stairwell leading to the second floor. When Esther died in 1978 his mother inherited the house and promptly sold it to the local funeral director. The Spencer home place is now the Bryan Funeral Home next door to Providence Methodist Church. The records in the safe included numerous original deeds which have been abstracted and put in chronological order, a journal or ledger (which included a recipe for cattle disease, accounts receivable & payable (which I did not transcribe), and birth dates of several people, some of which I could not decipher, an application for life insurance, and a few entries on the Benjamin Williams family.
