"The picture has been in my grandmother's bedroom for as long as I
remember. When she, Mary Florence (O'Neal) Gibbs, passed away I wanted the
black and white picture because I had a hunch that it was a family member
. When I reframed the picture, I discovered the name "S. Berry" written on
the back. I found out later that the picture was of my G-G-G-Grandmother,
Susan White Berry".. Natalie's lineage is seen in
red on the right. |
Susan White, daughter of Henry & Dorcas White, was born c1833
and died between 1880-1900. She married William Christopher Berry
in Hyde County on Nov. 24, 1854. According to census records,
Christopher was born c1833 and died between 1873-1880. To them
were born 8 children:

2) Israel S. Berry - b. Aug. 26, 1855
d. Aug. 6, 1931; married Mary Ann "Angelico/Jellico" Wade in Hyde Co.
on Sept. 6, 1878. Mary Ann, daughter of Neville C. Wade &
Angelico Holt, was born at Ocracoke, Hyde Co., NC on Jan. 10, 1856 and
died Sept. 1. 1932 in Hyde Co. They had the following 3 children:
a) Robert
Burrus Berry - b. Feb. 25, 1880 d. Dec. 2, 1946; married 1st
Caroline Gertrude Nixon (1880-1910) in Hyde Co. on July 20, 1903;
married 2nd Aretha Arolina Mason (1896-1937) in Hyde Co.
on Jan. 11, 1911.

Jennette Berry - b. Nov. 25, 1885 d. Oct. 30, 1964; married 1st
Israel William Mooney (1859-1924) in Hyde Co. on Jan. 26, 1909;
married 2nd David Alexander Cox (1860-1943) in Hyde Co. on
Jan. 10, 1928.

Christopher O'Neal
(1883-1961) in Hyde Co. on Apr. 23, 1905. Sudie & Lewis had 6

Mary Louise (Gibbs) Rivas, who is the mother of our submitter,
Natalie L. Chagnon. [The first
daughter, Edith Marie Gibbs, was stillborn on Dec. 24, 1927.]
