James Custus McClaud, Sr. (lower right) was born July 11, 1840 and died April 19, 1881 according to his family Bible.  He married Mary Jane Swindell in Hyde County on April 21, 1858.  Mary Jane was born to Joseph Swindell & Sarah Ann (Gibbs) Swindell on Dec. 26, 1841 and died May 9, 1925.

(Photo courtesy of Sheri Bickerton Selby who states: We found this photo in a box of photos belonging to Dorothy Fritz, wife of Tucker Selby, whose parents were Sarah Matilda McClaud and Percy Crafton Selby.  I asked my father-in-law, David Milton Selby (Dorothy Fritz' son), if he knew who any of these men were in this tin type photo. He said he thought it may have been his uncles on his fathers side, probably of the McClaud family.  After seeing photos of James Custus McClaud, provided by another user on Ancestry.com, I have determined that the man seated in the lower right is James Custus McClaud.  If any McClaud [sometimes spelled McLaud, McLeod, or McCloud] family members can identify any of the other men in this photo, I would me most grateful.  Thank you!
