The Hyde County Register of Deeds Office is open for business Monday - Friday from 8 to 5 except for holidays. The Register of Deeds has the following records:

    Births from 1913 - Present
    Commissioners Minute Dockets (Most of these are stored in the courthouse attic. The current docket and the one previous are kept in the courthouse vault and can be viewed.)
    Corporation Books from 1867 - June 2001 (now incorporated into the regular Real Estate books)
    Delayed Births (includes some birth dates as far back as the 1870's)
    Death records from 1913 - Present
    Real Estate

    • Land Grants beginning in 1782 - 1940 (State of NC selling to individuals)
    • Land Titles (**Registered Estates of Torrens property)
    • Oyster Grant & Entry Taker Books beginning in the late 1800's
    • Real Estate Records from 1736 - Present
    • Land sales & transactions
    • Mortgages & subsequent documents
    • Bills of Sale
    • Agreements
    • Ordinanaces
    • Sheriff's Deeds from the late 1800's - 1977 (now incorporated into the regular Real Estate books)

    Marriage Bonds from 1735 - 1867
    Marriage Records from the mid 1800's - Present
    Military Service Discharge Records beginning in the early 1900's
    Survey Plats from 1907 - Present (maps of property surveyed for individuals or groups)

** Torrens Records resulted from a short-lived attempt to revise the method of recording and transferring real estate. The system began in 1913 but was never very successful and ended in 1931. These are still transferred today, however, the old title is cancelled and a new deed is recorded in the regular real estate books.
