Nov. Term 1830 - Petition for Dower - Sarah Ainsley, widow of Benders L. Ainsley, states that he is dead intestate possessed of one tract of land on Mattamuskeet Lake occupied as the homestead plantation known as the Hill Plantation containing about [nothing written] acres bound on the North by the Lake, on the South by the land of the heirs of Doctor Hugh Jones and otherwise by other land of B.L. Ainsley, dec'd. And one other tract adjoining the Hill Plantation known as the Gaskin? Plantation and bounded & adjoining the land of Will Gaskill's heirs and the land of Elizer Jones containing about 90 or 100 acres with sundry small quantities of land. Sarah states that her deceased husband had not allotted to or for her and by law she is entitled to have her dower set off by 12 freeholders her 1/3 of all land and tenements, including the mansion house. /s/ N. Dec. 2, 1830 - Administrator's Bond - William Cahoon and Caleb Spencer, as administrators, signed a bond for $10,000 on the estate of Benders L. Ainsley. His securities on the bond were Benjamin Saunderson and Henry S. Spencer.
