May 31, 1841 - Administrators bond for $500.00 signed by Israel Brooks with his securities, Benjamin Midyett & Samuel T. Douglas.

July 24, 1841 - An inventory & account of sale of the property of Bethany Paine, dec'd., sold by Israel Brooks, Adm'r., on a credit of 6 mos.  Various buyers were: W.S. Douglass, Joshua White, Sparrow M. Payne, Samuel T. Douglass & John Midyett for keeping Hannah & Kate

Feb. Term 1844 - Petition of Israel Brooks states that sometime in 1842 he became the administrator of Bethany Pain and amongst other property belonging to his intestate, he took into his possession two old negroes, Hannah & Catherine [Kate in other places], both of whom on account of old age are likely to become a charge to the distributees of his intestate.  At the request of the distributees of said Bethany Pain, they ask that these negroes be sold.  /s/ Z.W. Sept. 9, 1844 - Account current between Israel Brooks, adm'r., and the estate of Bethany Paine, dec'd.  Mentions negro woman Hanna sold for $165.32 to Israel Brooks.
    Received of Israel Brooks, adm'r. of Bethany Paine, dec'd., $170.00 less by 5^1/2 months interest in full payment of the sum I bid off the negro woman Hanna at the lowest bidder, no on being willing to give anything for her, she being put up at the lowest bidder on the 24th August 1844 under the direction of an order of Court.  /s/ Daniel M. Pain
    Received of Israel Brooks, adm'r. of Bethany Paine, dec'd., $3.58 each for nine heirs making in all $32.22 in full for our distributive shares of said estate.  /s/ Daniel M. Pain, Benjamon M. [NOTE:  Bethany (Midyett) Paine, d/o Daniel Midyett & Rebecca (Sparrow) Midyett, was the widow of David Paine who died before 1830. Bethany & David had 8 known children: 1) William Paine married Bethany M. Pugh--both dead by 1841 & left 1 child; 2) Rebecca Paine married John Midyett; 3) Zilphia Paine married 1^st Dameron Pugh and 2^nd Wm. Samuel Douglass; 4) Sparrow Midyett Paine married 1^st Asneath M. Pugh and 2^nd Susan L. (Paine) O'Neal; 5) Charlotte Paine (died 1837) married Samuel Mann Pugh; 6) Bethany Paine married Daniel Midyett, Sr.; 7) Daniel M. Paine married Sabrah Jane Midyett; 8) David Paine married 1^st Catherine ____ and 2^nd Christianna (Sewell) Gibbs Sadler.]
