Johan George Lutz, parent of Jacob and George Lutz came from Wurtemburg, Germany, to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1749. His children followed in 1753, his wife likely having died in Germany. The elder Lutz died in Pennsylvania in 1756. Jacob and George removed to Lincoln County, North Carolina, where they purchased land in 1770. It is likely that George at least was back and forth between North Carolina and Pennsylvania earlier than 1770, perhaps shortly after 1756. It is family lore that George pastured horses west of the Catawba River and drove them north to Pennsylvania for sale.
George Lutz was married first to Barbara Latsch and they had a son,Johan George who died early. His second wife was Anna Catharina Schopf whom he married 30 June 1761.
Jacob Lutz married Maria Catharina Schopf 26 May 1767. Children of George Lutz and Anna Catharina Schopf were: Anna Catharina, born 11 April 1762, married Lourance Arney; Elisabetha, born 27 May 1763; Anna Maria, born about 1764; Johannes George, born 7 June 1768, married Elisabeth Lorance; Jacob S., born 22 December 1769, married Mary Lorance; Ephraim John, born 31 July 1771, married first unknown, married second about 1808 Catharine Bowman; Barbara, born about 1772; David born 24 September 1773, married Catharine Gross; Christina, born about 1775; Daniel, born 14 July 1776, married first Elisabeth Fulbright, married second Susanna Catharine Bost . Children of Jacob Lutz and Maria Catharina Schopf were: Jacob Lutz, Jr., born 13 May 1768, married first unknown, married second Mary Magdalene Keller ; George Lutz, born about 1771, married Sophia unknown; Caspar Lutz, born about 1775, married Catherine Calfhead in Indiana; Philip Henry Lutz, born about 1777, married Mary unknown. Jacob Lutz married a second time after 1790 to Catharine unknown and four more children were born: Susanna Lutz , born 5 April 1792, married Phillip Ikerd; Sarah (Sally) Lutz, born 24 September 1796, married first Lewis Huit, Jr., second John Head; David Lutz, born 27 July 1799, married Catharine Ikerd; John Lutz, born 1801, married Holly Head in Indiana. An extensive genealogy of the Lutz family "Johannes Georg Lutz 1706-1756 and His Descendants " was published in 1983 by Margaret D. Lutes. A great deal of information about the family is also included in "German Speaking People West of the Catawba River in North Carolina 1750-1800 " compiler and editor Lorena Shell Eaker.
