Descendants of Johann Franz Rincke

DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF NED ANDREW RINK WHO DIED JUNE 27, 2003

Generation No. 1

1. JOHANN FRANZ5 RINCKE (JOHANNES4, JOHANNES DAVID3 RINKEN, HANS JACOB2 RINKE, HANS1) was born September 25, 1753 in Wickenrode, Germany, and died July 25, 1810 in Lincolnton, North Carolina. He married MARY MARGARITE KILLION in Lincoln County, North Carolina. She was born Bet. 1755 - 1765 believed to be Franz’s wife: SEE NOTES, and died in North Carolina.

Notes for JOHANN FRANZ RINCKE:

This is the family of Johann Frantz Rincke who was born in Wickenrode, Germany came to America as a Hessian Solder fighting for the British and deserted in Charleston, 3 months later arriving in Lincoln County, North Carolina and raising his family. Henry Andrew Rinck was the son of Frantz and Mary that became our roots. There son Andrew was the grandfather to Ned and his son James E. and Mary Etta Setzer Rink were his parents. We are very proud of this family and will welcome any of our relatives to contact us to add your name to this. My sister Brenda Witherspoon and I, Mary Elizabeth Rink Harbinson, went to Germany and joined 300 years of family in 2000. This was the most wonderful day of our lives to stand at the house that Frantz was born in 1753 and walk in his footsteps through this wonderful little German Village. Herbert Brandt is our living relative in Wickenrode and is a Historian himself. We felt like we were home every second of our visit to this village. We would only wish that everyone could have the experience we did finding our family. Someone was leading us to this village, greater than us. So this is for you Dad, we only wished you could have gone with us. A young lady and her husband ask us into their homes, perfect strangers to us, not even family related and she took us to meet our relative. Conny and Volker Braun will always be that guardian angel that joined this family together and they are visiting America for the first time, September of 2003. We sincerely hope everyone out there looking for their roots never give up. You will make mistakes but you will find all the good you are looking for.

If you can add to this family, please contact .

Notes for MARY MARGARITE KILLION:

It is believed by this researcher, Mary Rink Harbinson, and with the help of the Killion Researchers, that it is about 99% sure that Mary Margaret Killion, daughter of Leonard Killion, was the wife of Franz Rinck of Lincoln Co., N.C. No document had been found as of 2003 to offically say she was his wife, but through other sources we believe she was his wife.

John Pinkney Spencer enlisted in Company C. 28th N.C. Regiment on Aug 13, 1861. He was one among the dutiful and faithful soldiers of Company C. In the battle of Cold Harbor he had his hand shot to pieces. He however had his hand patched up, returned to his post and remained until the surrender, He settled near Conover and engaged in farming. Like most of the soldiers, he has made his life work a success. He has been active and liberal in church work. He is now an honored offical of his town in Conover. The author wishes to say to his credit that he has been an active helper in the production of the Catawba Soldier of the Civil War. Thanks to him and may he live out a happy old age.

55. SIDNEY EDWARD8 SPENCER (ELI ANTHONY7, SUSANNAH6 RINCK, JOHANN FRANZ5 RINCKE, JOHANNES4, JOHANNES DAVID3 RINKEN, HANS JACOB2 RINKE, HANS1) was born January 24, 1846 in Catawba County, North Carolina, and died September 18, 1906 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He married EMALINE M. TURNER September 19, 1869 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She was born July 10, 1849 in Catawba County, North Carolina, and died December 03, 1924 in Catawba County, North Carolina.

Notes for SIDNEY EDWARD SPENCER:

E. Sidney Spencer, enlisted for the war in Company C. 28th Regiment on Aug, 13, 1861, His war comrades who were with him thought and in it all say Sidney was a faithful, brave soldier one always willing and ready to perform, every duty assigned him however hard or dangerous.

They also say that he was a good man . This is a high compliment coming from a high, reliabel sourse. For there is no place in which to more throughly test mens souls than in camp life, the hungry march, or facing bullets, He survived the war. Coming home he chose farming as his life-work. He suscceeded in making an honest living, and rearing and educating an average good family of children and preparing them for the battles of life and meriting and receiving for himself the love and confidence of his neighbors and all who learned to know him. About three or four years ago, the death courier came, and in a low, loving whisper said faithful one. lay down lifes battles, come up home and rest. for with you the war is over the victory won, like in every righteous demand of life, whether in war or in peace, Sidney obeyed the summons without a murmer. The world is better for his lived in it. May the shouts of heaven be sweeter. We miss him , but can ever sing his praises . A soldier, an obliging neighbor, a loving husband and father and in its truest sense. a good man rests from his labors.
