Martin County was named after Josiah Martin and recently in a Flickr group for posting pictures of historical markers, someone posted Josiah’s.
The marker is located in Brunswick County. Seeing this reminded me that I’d wanted to do a post about Historical Markers as they can add context to your family genealogy work. The Flickr group that this was posted in is called NC Historical Markers Pool and can be monitored via RSS feed.
Other good sources include:
- NC Highway Historical Marker Database maintained by the NC Department of Cultural Resources. On their site, you can search by text words and by county to find what you need.
- Waymarker has a listing of markers throughout the state. According to their Google Map interface for browsing, there are not any yet listed for Martin County, but you may be interested in some of the others. An easy way to stay up to date is to subscribe to the RSS feed.
