{"id":324,"date":"2009-04-17T21:07:42","date_gmt":"2009-04-18T04:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/martin\/?p=324"},"modified":"2009-04-17T21:07:42","modified_gmt":"2009-04-18T04:07:42","slug":"justus-everett-victim-of-ptomaine-poisoning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncgenweb.us\/martin\/justus-everett-victim-of-ptomaine-poisoning\/","title":{"rendered":"EVERETT, Justus (d. 1913)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Charlotte Observer &#8211; March 9, 1913<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>News was received here yesterday of the death of <strong>Mr. Justus Everett<\/strong>, who lived just below Palmyra, in Martin County, which occurred Thursday night from the effects of ptomaine poisoning contracted through drinking a small glass of cider from his stock in his store. He was violently ill for three or four days, and the physicians could do nothing to relieve him.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Everett was one of the most prominent farmers of eastern North Carolina, a man whose judgment was relied upon by his neighbors, practical, sane and industrious. By economy and industry he had accumulated an estate of about $50,000, starting in life with nothing.<\/p>\n<p>A wife and nine children of a former marriage survive him. Of his sons, <strong>Mr. R.O. Everett<\/strong> of Durham is known as one of the State&#8217;s most promising young lawyers. Mr. S. Justus Everett of Greensboro is also a prominent attorney.<\/p>\n<p>The funeral occurred at Spring Green Primitive Baptist Church, near his home, this morning, <strong>Elder T.M.
