It was reported that Whilton died from artillery fire. His body was recovered.<\/p>\n<p>He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Whilton H. McCarthy of Drive, Charlotte, NC. He served with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion 26th Marines, 1st Marine Division, 3rd MAF.
