The Patriot newspaper (Greensboro, NC) in the April 11, 1832 edition: Thomas Jeffreys' will, written March 3, 1832, mentioned the fact that he had homes named Red House Plantation and Hyco Plantation, both of which he had deeded to his son James at an earlier date, but seemed to infer that his son George should have Hyco, however this was apparently a mis-statement since he had actually given Hyco to George in a deed written May 24, 1825, proved in Court on April 1827 [Deed of Gift, Caswell Co. Deed Book X, p.108] for 606 acres, described as "on the waters of North Hico" in Caswell County. Thomas gave his son James land consisting of 1100 acres, described as being in Caswell County "on the waters of North Hyco and Country line creeks" which included the "Red House Mansion" in a deed written May 24, 1825, but wasn't proved in Court until April 1832, after Thomas' death [Deed of Gift, Caswell Co. Deed Book AA, p.197]. He had also given James 615 acres in Person Co. "on the waters of North Hyco and Cobb Creek" in another Deed of Gift, made on May 24, 1825, proven May 15, 1832, which was also after the death of Thomas [Caswell Co. Deed Book AA,p.208]. His daughter, Elizabeth, had been married to Thomas McGehee (1784-1867) of Burleigh Plantation. Elizabeth is buried in the McGehee Family Cemetery in Roxboro, Person County with her husband. The inscription on her tomb reads: "Beneath this stone repose the mortal remains of Elizabeth M the beloved wife of Thomas McGehee and daughter of Thomas Jeffreys and Mildred Mitchell".
