Francis Duffy, M.D.

Dr. Francis Duffy, M. D., was born in Richland township, Onslow county, N.C. June 24, 1847. His literary education was obtained in different private schools and by private tutors.  He read medicine with his father, Dr. Charles Duffy, and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1868, and from the college of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 1875, and from Bellevue hospital in 1873.  In 1869 he located in Jacksonville, N.C., and opened an office, but in 1879 removed to Newbern, and has since been associated with his brother, Dr. Charles Duffy, Jr.  He is a member of the American medical association; North Carolina state medical society, and was a member of the State examining board from 1884 to 1890.  He is a director in the Building & Loan association and the Virginia Life Insurance company.  As a physician he excels.  His medical training was the best and was made use of to the best advantage.  The result has been honorable.
