He was formerly the property of\u00a0<strong>Francis Burns<\/strong> dec. of Onslow County, HE IS A METHODIST\u00a0PREACHER, AND CAN READ AND WRITE.-He is about 6\u00a0feet high, very black and smooth skin, and speaks very distinct.<\/p>\n<p>He is supposed to be lurking some times down Neuse river, and\u00a0at others up the same, and so he ranges through Craven, Jones, and\u00a0Onslow Counties.\u00a0Any person apprehending the said negro, and delivering him to\u00a0the subscriber, within five miles of Swansborough, shall be entitled\u00a0to the above reward.-Or any person who will so secure him that I\u00a0get him again, shall receive Twenty Dollars.<\/p>\n<p>The most probable method to catch him, will be at Methodist\u00a0meetings.-All masters of vessels and others are forewamed from\u00a0harbouring employing or carrying him away, at their peril. \u00a0June 27. \u00a0&#8212; \u00a0<strong>Henry Lockey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Newbern Gazette &#8212; August 15, 1800<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Source<\/em><\/strong>: &#8220;Eighteenth Century Slaves as Advertised by their Masters.&#8221; Journal of Negro History 1 (1916): 163-216.
