Samuel Strudwick to John Thompson
This Indenture made this 18th day of June in the year of our Lord 1787 Between Samuel Strudwick Esq. of County of Orange In the State of North Carolina of the one part and John Thompson of the State and County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Samuel Strudwick Esq for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred pounds specie to him in hand paid be the said John Thompson the receipt whereof the said Samuel Strudwick doth hereby acknowledge both granted, bargained, sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said John Thompson his heirs and assigns all that tract of land containing by estimation seven(7)hundred and Sixty Four acres lying and being in the County of Orange aforesaid Beginning at a Gum on the side of the Haw River running thence No (30) thirty degrees East 19 chains to Motes Creek same courses contend (?) in all (24) twenty four chains to W.O.(White Oak) then east (45) forty five chains to B.O. (Black Oak) on the side of Rocky Run then up the meanders of the same run to an Ironwood Bush then No (48) forty eight chains to a B.O. James Roach’s Corner then his line North (31) thirty one degrees West (40) forty chains to his other corner B.O. (Black Oak) then South (45) forty five degrees West (20) twenty chains to a P.O. (Post Oak) then North (80) eighty degrees West (44 & ¾) forty four & three fourths chains to a W.O. on the side of Motes Creek then down the meanders thereof to a Hicory, then South (20) twenty degrees West 12 twelve chains to a W.O. then South (75) seventy five degrees West (36) thirty six chains to a Hicory on the side of Haw river then down the meanders thereof to the first station It being part of a larger tract originally granted to Edward c. Mosely and all appurtenances to the same thereunto belonging and also the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents, issues & profits of the said premises and every part thereof and all the estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Samuel Strudwick of in and to the said premises and every part thereof to have and to hold said tract of land and all and singular the premises above mentioned and every part thereof to said John Thompson his heirs and assigns to the only proper use & behalf the said Jno Thompson his heirs and assigns forever & the said Samuel Strudwick for him and his heirs the said tract of land and premises every part thereof against him & his heirs to the said John Thompson his heirs shall warrant forever defend against the lawful claim or demand of any person persons whatsoever.
