THOMAS SWANN<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

1733<\/span><\/p>\n

The 7th. Day of May, in ye Year, 1733. Be it rememered <\/span>that I, Thomas Swann<\/strong>, of the preci’t of pasquotank and prov<\/span>ince of North Carolina; being very Sick of body but of Sound <\/span>& perfect mind & memory, thanks be Given to God, therefore <\/span>caUing to mind ye Mortality of my body, & knowing yt it is <\/span>appointed for all men once to Dye; Do make & ordain this to <\/span>be my last Will & testament in manner & form following, Vizt :<\/span><\/p>\n

1st. I will yt all those Debts or Duteys yt I owe to be well <\/span>& truly Contented & paid in Some Convenient time after my <\/span>Decease by my Exors. here after named.<\/span><\/p>\n

2d’ly, I Give & bequeath to my Son, Samuel Swann<\/strong>, ye Plan<\/span>tation were I now Dwell, to him & his heirs for Ever.<\/span><\/p>\n

3d’ly, I Give & bequeath to my Son, William Swann<\/strong>, my <\/span>other plantation wch I bought of ye heirs of Robert Wallis<\/em>, <\/span>to him & his heirs for Ever:<\/span><\/p>\n

Butt in Case Either of my sd Sons shall Sell, alien, Mortgage, <\/span>or any other way convey. Either of ye Sd Plantations hereby <\/span>Given out of the name of ye Swanns,<\/strong> that then it shall & may <\/span>be Lawfull for the other of my sd sons to reEnter & take Pos<\/span>session of ye Same.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item, I Give and bequeath to my Son, William Swann<\/strong>, my <\/span>Negro boy Named Jack.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item, I Give & bequeath to my Son, Samuel Swann<\/strong>, my negro <\/span>Girl named Dido.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item, my Will is yt my other plantations at Moyock and <\/span>in ye prect: of Curratuck, be Sold for money wch I give to my <\/span>two Daughters, Rebeca<\/strong> & Elizabeth Swann<\/strong>, Equaly to be Di<\/span>vided between them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item, my will is yt my part of ye Sloop Swann be Sold.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item; I will yt a Sufficient quantity of corn be reserved for <\/span>the family Use & Stock, & ye Remainder be Sold for money.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item, my will & Desire is yt my Estate consisting in negrows, <\/span>other Creatures or whatsoever it may, be & Continue & re<\/span>main in ye possesion of my Dear & Loveing wife, Rebeca Swann<\/strong>, <\/span>& ye Use of them for & towards the Maintenance & Chris<\/span>tian Education of my Children; & when my sd. Children shall <\/span>attain to Age, then to Draw out of my Estate there proportion<\/span>able part, or share of Young Negroes, as shall be raised in their <\/span>Minority.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item, I give and bequeath to my Dear & Loveing wife my <\/span>Best feather bed & furniture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item, I give & bequeath to my two sons, William<\/strong> & Samuel <\/strong><\/span>Swann<\/strong>, Each of them a feather Bed & furniture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item, I give and bequeath to my two Daughters, Rebeca <\/strong><\/span>& Eliz Swann<\/strong>, Each of them a feather Bed and furniture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Item, I give and bequeath unto my two Sons, Samuel<\/strong> & <\/span>William Swann<\/strong>, Each of them a horse, bridle and Sadie.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lastly, I will that all ye rest of my personable Estate remain <\/span>Intirely whole in the Possesion of my Wife, Rebeca Swann<\/strong>, <\/span>untill my Children arrive to there respective ages, or Day of <\/span>marrage and then to be Equally Divided among them.<\/span><\/p>\n

And, I Do hereby nominate and apoint my loving wife, <\/span>Rebeca Swann<\/strong> and my Respected frend Colo. Edward Moseley <\/strong><\/span>to be my whole & Sole Exors. of this my Last Will and Testa<\/span>m’t hereby Revokeing & Disanulling all other wills & Testaments <\/span>
\nheretofore in any wise by me made, Rattifying & Confirming <\/span>this to be my Last will & Testam’t and no Other.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Witness whereof, I have hereunto Sett my hand & Seal <\/span>

Pritchard<\/strong>, who De<\/span>clared on the Sollemn aflSrmation of a Quaker that he Saw CoUo: Thomas <\/strong><\/span>Swann<\/strong>, lately Deceased, Sign, Seal & Declare the foregoing writeing to <\/span>Contain his last Will & Testament, and that he was in his full Sences and <\/span>no Compulsion was offered; and that also he Saw Mary Edwards<\/strong> & Samuel <\/strong><\/span>Wise<\/strong>, the other two Subscribeing Witnesses set their hands thereto. Given <\/span>under my hand at Edenton the 9th. of Augt. 1733.<\/span><\/p>\n
