Marriage: ROUSE, Carson & ANDERSON, Nita (1918)

Last Wednesday evening Miss Nita ANDERSON, of Shelter Neck, was united in the bonds of matrimony to Mr. Carson ROUSE, of Rose Hill, at the home of Mr. John RAMSEY, who performed the ceremony.  Only a few intimate friends and acquaintances of the bride were present.

Miss ANDERSON, always a very attractive looking girl, was attired in a  handsome gray satin dress which just suited her style of feminine beauty.  Next morning early the young couple left for their new home, taking with them the cordial wishes for their future happiness of a large number of friends, relatives and neighbors.

Marriage: BRANCH, Clifford Calcott & Sarah Massie GOODE

Among the Virginia weddings for June, that of Miss Sarah Massie GOODE to Mr. Clifford Calcott BRANCH, of Burgaw, NC, is a matter of interest to Richmond society.  Miss GOODE is the daughter of Colonel and Mrs. J. Thomas GOODE, of  “Sunnyside,” Mecklenburg county, and the marriage will be celebrated June 7th, at their home.

Marriage: John WILLIAMS & Lizzie BELL (1900)

A Very Young Bride

Wilmington, NC , Sept. 9 – Mr. John WILLIAMS and Miss Lizzie BELL, daughter of Mr. McL. BELL, were united in marriage yesterday at Burgaw.  Application for a marriage license was made here, but on account of an uncertainty as to whether the young lady was thirteen or fourteen years of age, the license could not be procured at the time.  The couple then decided to go to Burgaw and make a trial.  The bride was really fourteen years old and their trip to Pender county yesterday proved successful.  They returned to Wilmington on the evening train.

Marriage: Thos. G. COVINGTON & Gertrude RIVENBARK

BEAUTIFUL WEDDING – Miss Gertrude Rivenbark Became Bride of Prominent Young Business Man

Ms. Getrude RIVENBARK, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.T. RIVENBARK, of Williard, NC and Mr. Thos. G. COVINGTON, a leading young business man of Clio, SC, were happily united in marriage at the home of the bride’s parents, at Wiliard, yesterday at high noon, Rev. Dr. Calvin S. BLACKWELL, of this city, officiating.

Miss Zennie CROOM, of Burgaw, was maid of honor, and Mr. Baxter A. FLETCHER, of Clio, was best man.  Miss Exie CROOM, of Burgaw, charmingly rendered the wedding marches.  The following group of young ladies were bridesmaids: Miss Clara Lane WILLS, of McColl; Miss Katie VEACH of Warsaw; Miss Linda DOZIER, of Wilmington; Miss Mamie JOHNSON, of Williard; Miss Eveline POWERS, of Williard.  The ushers were: Mr. F.T. CROOM, of Burgaw;  Mr. Jas. M. JOHNSON, of Williard, Mr. Bernard A. EDENS, of Dillon, SC; Mr. John C. WIGGINS, of Wilmington; and Mr. R.J. RIVENBARK, of Darlington, SC.

The delightful occasion brought together a large company, among whom were Mr. J.C. COVINGTON, of Clio, Mr. C.C. RIVENBARK, of Sanford; Mr. J.W. RIVENBARK, of Wilmington; Miss Katie SHOLAR, of Wilmington; Mrs. Eva Forrester RIVENBARK, of Burgaw, and other members of the family and friends.

The bridesmaids and maids of honor were in white organdi.  The bride wore an elegant going-away gown of castor venetian cloth with velvet lining — Wilmingon Star Jan. 29th.

Marriage: Harper & Rivenbark (1935)

Clara Rivenbark, daughter of Liston Wells Rivenbark, is to be married on 26 Apr 1935 in Granada, Texas, to Dr. Jack Carnes Harper, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Harper. Clara was a graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU). Dr. Harper was also a graduate of SMU and a graduate of Baylor Medical College.

Marriage: Bannerman & Noel (1916)

Kenansville – June 18 – John A. Bannerman of Burgaw and Miss Fannie Noel of Lexington, Miss., were married at the home of bride’s uncle Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Faison Pierce, by Rev. T. M. Levy, assisted by Rev. A. O. Moore. 

The groom is cashier of the Bank of Pender and comes from a long line of noble ancestry and is the only son of John R. Bannerman of Burgaw. Miss Noel is a niece of ex-Governor Noel of Mississippi, and has many relatives in this state. She has been teaching in Burgaw High School three years and has won warm friends throughout the state.
