Military Department.\u00a0 This complaint can be found in the minutes of Centre Mo. Meeting of Friends that was held at Centre, N. C. 10 mo. 21, 1911.\u00a0 Centre Friends Meeting is located at 325 East NC Hwy 62, south of Greensboro in Guilford County, North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hubert GREGSON\u00a0<\/strong>is my grandfather.\u00a0 I am providing a short history of my GREGSON ancestors per my personal knowledge and the genealogical work compiled by one of my aunts from her thirty years of research.\u00a0 My aunt\u2019s work contains more detail than I can provide here so I have included surnames of allied families.\u00a0 If any researcher should feel that I can help them in any way or should find an error in this information or can add to it\u2026.please contact me at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:jahlbh@bellsouth.net\"><strong>jahlbh@bellsouth.net<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and mention Gregson genealogy in the Subject Line.\u00a0 Thank You, Lynette Hudspeth<\/p>\n<p>A brief sketch of these three GREGSON brothers:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlie\u00a0Roscoe\u00a0GREGSON:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Born\u00a0 5 JUL 1890 in Randolph County, NC\/Died\u00a0 14 OCT 1971 in Redding, Shasta County, CA.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Roscoe<\/strong>\u00a0joined the US Army and served overseas during World War I.\u00a0 After this service to his country he moved to Redding, California where he owned and operated a restaurant.\u00a0 He never married or returned home to North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claude\u00a0Walter GREGSON:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Born\u00a0 13 MAR 1893 in Randolph County, NC\/Died\u00a0 6 SEP 1974 in Randolph County, NC.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Claude<\/strong>\u00a0served in the US Navy before World War I and later served his country when he went to Pearl Harbor to help rebuild it after December 7, 1941.\u00a0 He owned a well drilling business in Randolph County, NC and, on\u00a0 8 SEP 1917, married\u00a0<strong>Verna Alma\u00a0SMITH<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Verna<\/strong>\u00a0was born\u00a0 13 NOV 1888 and died\u00a0 21 MAR 1972.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Claude<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Verna<\/strong>\u00a0had three children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hubert\u00a0Clayton GREGSON:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Born\u00a0 14 JAN 1895 in Randolph County, NC\/Died\u00a0 3 APR 1987 at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, Guilford County, NC\/Final resting place is Randolph Memorial Park, 4538 US Hwy 220 Bus N, Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Hubert<\/strong>\u00a0was inducted into the US Navy in 1911 (listed on induction papers as having blue eyes, brown hair, and height just shy of 5ft. 10inches).\u00a0 He was honorably discharged in 1915.\u00a0 When the United States entered World War II he tried to reenlist.\u00a0 This time, for obvious reasons, he was rejected.\u00a0 He was a proud \u2013 and lucky &#8211; father who had three sons serve with honor in that war and return home safely. During his service in the Navy he traveled to China and was privileged to view the Ming Tombs.\u00a0 In 1916 he worked in Detroit, Michigan for $0.39\/hour.\u00a0 While in the Navy and during his time in Detroit\u00a0<strong>Hubert<\/strong>\u00a0sent his pay home to his mother for safekeeping.\u00a0 When he returned home to Randolph County, NC he married \u2013 10 JUN 1917 \u2013\u00a0<strong>Hazel\u00a0Ruth BARKER<\/strong>\u00a0and, with his savings, bought the first automobile owned in Randolph County, NC.\u00a0 For many years he owned and operated a sawmill (1916-1940) in the county and produced molasses (every fall 1928-1945).\u00a0 Later in his life\u00a0<strong>Hubert<\/strong>\u00a0was a brick mason who hired and supervised others in this profession.\u00a0 His wife,\u00a0<strong>Hazel\u00a0Ruth BARKER<\/strong>, was born\u00a0 12 AUG 1896 in Randolph County, NC\/Died\u00a0 21 SEP 1965 in Pleasant Garden, Randolph County, NC\/Final resting place is Randolph Memorial Park, 4538 US Hwy 220 Bus N, Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of\u00a0<strong>George Prather (G. now for the\u00a0<em>possibilities<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>In the 1980s and 1990s my aunt corresponded with several researchers who believed\u00a0<strong>Reverend Julius Cicero GREGSON\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0father was an\u00a0<strong>Amos GREGSON<\/strong>\u00a0who lived about 10 miles south of Lexington, North Carolina.\u00a0 This\u00a0<strong>Amos GREGSON<\/strong>\u00a0was reported to have been married to a\u00a0<strong>Sarah MARTIN.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>There\u00a0<em>are<\/em>\u00a0several records in the \u201cold\u201d Rowan County, NC deed books that list one \u201c<strong>Amos GREGSON<\/strong>\u201d as a witness to transactions made in the 1790s and early 1800s.\u00a0 The county boundaries during that era put Lexington, which is west of present day Randolph County, and its surrounding area in Rowan County, NC (Lexington is now located within the newer boundaries of Davidson County, NC).\u00a0 The first son born to\u00a0<strong>Reverend Julius Cicero GREGSON<\/strong>\u00a0and his 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0wife,\u00a0<strong>Holland BRILES<\/strong>, was named\u00a0<strong><em>Amos<\/em>\u00a0GREGSON<\/strong>.\u00a0 If\u00a0<strong>Julius<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Holland<\/strong>\u00a0were conforming to the traditional English order of naming their children \u2013 and they may well have been since they named their first female child\u00a0<strong>Nancy Ann\u00a0<\/strong>(mother\u00a0<strong>Holland BRILES\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0mother\u2019s given names) and their second son,\u00a0<strong>John<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>Holland\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0father\u2019s name) \u2013 this is strong evidence, but not\u00a0<em>proof<\/em>, for a connection of\u00a0<strong>Julius Cicero\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Amos<\/strong>\u00a0<em>of Lexington<\/em>\u00a0<strong>GREGSON<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There is further speculation by researchers as to a connection of\u00a0<strong>Amos<\/strong>\u00a0<em>of Lexington<\/em>\u00a0<strong>GREGSON<\/strong>\u00a0with one\u00a0<strong>George GREGSON<\/strong>\u00a0who appears on an Orange County, NC tax list for the year 1755.\u00a0 This may be but I don\u2019t have or know of any specific supporting information for that connection;
