Half Penny minted 1739
I was amazed and delighted to learn that this ancient coin was
found recently at our Campbell homeplace in Richmond county.
Sufficient markings on the face and tail help identify it as a
Half Penny minted 1739 in Great Brittan. A coin of George II. It
is well worn as you can see in the photo.

Half Penny minted 1739 - tails
Imagine this. It could have been lost when Governor Tryon was a
ten year old child, perhaps four decades before the Revolutionary
War. This coin was likely buried in our soft sands even before this
area became Richmond County in 1779. Wow, How exciting is that?
