At Edinburgh the 22nd Day of March 1792 years In the presence of the Lords of Countie and Session Compeared [ie legal term for:
appeared before a Court or Judge] sur [by?] John Swinton advocate procurator for -x- [a space filler, at the end of a line] Captain John
Martin after Designed and gave in the Trust Disposition underwritten desiring that the same might be Registered in their Lordships books
conform to Law with Desire the said Laws found reasonable and ordained the same to be done accordingly whereof the Tenor follows.
Know all Men by these presents (me?) Captain John Martin late of the Royal North -x- Carolina Regiment whereas I am resolved to make Settlement
of my Effects among my Children afternamed and during my own Life time in order to prevent all disputes which might otherwise happen among them
at my Death and having full and entire Confidence in my friends afternamed for executing the (blank space, which is underlined) Trust and making
the Distribution of effects underwritten Do therefore Give, Grant, Assign and dispose to and in favour of Lieutenant Angus Martin late of the
76th Regiment, Donald Martin, Merchant in Greenock and Malcom MacLeod presently servant to William -x- MacLeod Bannatyne, esquire of Kames [in
Argyll] and to the acceptors or acceptor …
… a promissory Note Dated the 13th Day of December 1790 years granted by the Banking House of Sir William forbes, James Hunter and Company to
me for the sum of 200 pounds sterling But always in Trust for the particular uses and purposes after-mentioned …
In the first place to pay all my Just and lawful Debts, Death Bed Charges …
In the second place to pay to my several Children after named the respective Sums of Money after specified Viz to Murdoch Martin my eldest son
the sum of (X) to William Martin my second son also planter in the said County the sum of (X) to Martin Martin my third son also planter in the
said County … (X) to John Martin my fourth Son also planter … (X) to Alexander Martin my youngest son likewise a planter …
(X) To Katherine Martin my eldest daughter, spouse of Kenneth Murchison, Planter Moore County, NC, (Y) to Margaret Martin my second Daughter
Spouse to Martin Martin also -x- Planter …(Y) to Flora Martin my Youngest -x- Daughter presently residing in Said County … (Y) and
to flora Martin my natural Daughter also residing in the said County the sum of (Z).

January in the Year of our Lord 1793 Administration (with the Will annexed) of all and singular the Goods, Chattels and (Credits?) of John Martin,
late a Captain in his Majesty's North Carolina Regiment, Deceased was granted to Hector MacKay -x- esquire the lawful attorney of Angus Martin -x-
Donald Martin and Malcolm MacLeod the -x- Executors of the will according to the Tenor thereof for their use and benefit residing at North Britain
having been first sworn duly to administer.
He left for North Carolina in 1771 ('The Truth About Flora MacDonald', p73)
