This young gentleman was at school in the Rockingham Academy on the evening last preceding the morning of his death, and being attacked with a violent pain in his head, he requested one of his school associates to accompany him to his father's. He had not however, prodeeded far, before the increased violence of the pain and a sickness at the stomach, producing a partial blindness and great debilty, he requested his companion to assist him to the sho of Dr. Thomas about a hundred yards distant. On entering the door of the shop he observed to a student within, in a prophetic tone, "I am sick," and walked to a bed and laid himself down, to rise no more.-Fifteen hours afterwards he quietly breathed out his last. From the time of his lying down to that of his falling asleep in the chill embraces of death, he retained, it is believed, his senses, but seemed to be in a stupid, listless state, requiring loud and frequent repetitions of a question to arouse and fix his attention sufficiently to draw from him an answer. Only sixteen hours before his lips were purpled, and his eyes closed forever in death, he seemed truly destined for an old age- as far removed from the "cold and silent chambers of the tomb," as you, reader, possibly can seem. The deceased, called on business to Anson Superior Court on the 14th ult., while at Wadesborough complained of illness, and, as though conscious that his attack would be serious, endeavoured to reach home before his strength should fail him; but being unable to effect this purpose, stopped with a kind relative on the way, from whence he was removed home on the second day-his family hearing of his sickness having sent for him. Certainly the recollection of leaving behind him a beloved family, consisting, with the exception of an only son-in-law, of several motherless daughters, who were wont to lean upon him as their only parent, their kind protector and guide, was calculated, and no doubt had that effect, to enkindle a wish or even solicitude to remain. we have been permitted to take the following copy from the Minutes of said Court, where stands the record in plain characters surrounded by imposing marks of mourning: " a member of this Bar rose, and in a feeling manner, announced to the Court, the death of William Crawford, Esq., for many years Sheriff of this County; whereupon, through respect to the memory of the deceased and in testimony of the estimation in which he is held, and for the further purpose of enabling the members and officers of this Court to attend his funeral and interment, Court adjourned to tomorrow, 10 oclock.
